Defender of the Crown was a classic but the best ever and one I still play to this day, Sword of Aragon.  Best turn based fantasy strategy game I have ever played.
Amiga 1200, 3.1 OS/ROM, 2 MB RAM, 120 GB hard drive, wireless NIC

According to Retro Gamer magazine, "Sword of Aragon is considered by many to be the best fantasy wargame ever."[14]

Your internet posting privileges have been revoked good sir. Please ponder your sins while your punishment is being calculated.

It may take a while, we calculate them one turn at a time :)

Anyway, a number of excellent suggestions for games that I'll have to try in this thread.
