how do I digitize pictures on my amiga
« on: February 13, 2008, 07:01:42 PM »
Dear Friends:

I am learning to use 'moviesetter' on my amiga. I need to digitize pictures (pencil drawn) so I can import them in moviesetter to make a 2d animation.
What is the best way to do this -digitize pics- and can I buy the needed tools new online?
Pls help!!!

how about a cheap early model scanner. save file out as an .iff or what ever moviesetter uses.

i have one of those handheld units in a box not doing anything. will dig it out see if the manual and software are with it.

Use that handscanner I sold you on Ebay a few years ago.

Or use a DigiView.  Slow but really cheap on Ebay.

Where did you ever find cracked version of MovieSetter?  That software is abandonware (for over a decade) but all the version I've found still want you to type a word from the manual to use it.

What is your avatar?  I've wondered what it is supposed to be every time I see it.

Hi all:

@ral-clan
My copy of moviesetter is an original one including the manual, I bought it used from ebay.
My avatar is a render of one of the scenes that comes with lightwave 3d, it is a mecha robot walking thru. HEHE you are right, it does not show well, I will change the avatar!!!
I tried to use the scanner you sold me but could not make it work and I assumed it is not good, but now that you remind me of it it means it must work so I will give it a new try.

Sorry to hear the scanner didn't work for you.  It never gave me a problem - and I did test it before sending it.  Try it some more (I seem to remember since the driver software is older you might have to play with the screenmode or something).

Also, if you have a SCSI card with external connector, you can use an flatbed SCSI scanner to scan your drawn art.  BetaScan is free on Aminet and drives many SCSI scanners.

I see SCSI scanners (some very good quality) in Thrift stores now and then selling for peanuts.  Look for people who used to do graphic work on old 68K series Macs - they usually have one to sell!

If you're actually hand drawing the pictures yourself - why not use a good drawing package on your Amiga and use that instead of hand drawing and then scanning?

It's not at all the same.  It's possible to be good at one but not the other.  I cannot freehand draw with a mouse.  Period.  No drawing tablet works either, not even the Golden Image pen/mouse.
