Deliplayer won't work on Windoze 7 !?
« on: March 01, 2013, 12:25:05 AM »
I bought a brand new intel core i5 quadcore 3.1Ghz pc with Windoze 7 so I could run WinUAE at a decent speed for once.  And of course I want to do a few other things to.  So far Chrome is working ok.  But...

I installed Deliplayer 2.50 beta.  It seemed to install fine without any error messages.   It is listed in the start menu but when I run it I get a msg "Could not start Deliplayer". :(

When I right click on a mod to listen to it there is NO CONTEXT MENU.  No "Open with Deliplayer" option is there like with my ancient windoze xp box. :(

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR :destroy:

I can't even listen to mods on this computer?!?!?!

What do I do?!?  I can't write good code unless I am listening to some mods. :(

Does anyone in the world use Deliplayer on Windoze 7?

According to Wickedpedia: Winamp is useless since it plays the mods incorrectly.

I have WinUAE installed on my Windows 7 64-bit Quad-core PC.  I use HippoPlayer.  It plays all my MODS very well.  The only issue I have with WinUAE is with Deluxe Music.  When it uses the internal samples via Paula emulation timing gets screwed up.  It has no problems playing MIDI sounds via WinUAE's MIDI emulation through the computer's built-in audio card.

Amiga does not have players for many pc mod formats.

The good thing about deliplayer was it played every format in the universe (except MEDmods).

Popular applications like WinAMP are able to play the major module formats (XM, IT, S3M, MOD) in a similar method to the way you would play an MP3. However, WinAMP in particular is unable to accurately play certain effects that are quite common in module formats, for example offset and portamento commands, which can significantly affect playback.

Do you need a quadcore for decent speed?

You definitely need more than 1 core.

I have a single core PC that could never emulate an Amiga at full speed.  Not even close.  And it was burning my entire 1500 Mhz of CPU power.

The only MOD player worth using on any non-68k-Amiga platform is UADE.

You can compile it for Windows if you have Cygwin installed.

I recommend cloning the git repo as it's a lot better than the last tarball release.

@ ChaosLord

Have you tried tinkering with Compatibility mode?

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/make-older-programs-run-in-this-version-of-windows

I used to set some programs to compatibility mode to stop forced updates to the latest versions eg Windows Messenger occasionally forced an update to continue use.

I had an old PC that didn't have the juice for more bloatware.

I know the link above is for Vista, but I'm sure the same principle applies for Windows7.

Use BZR Player, it plays everything you got and is actively developed:

The user interface on this one is just megafantastically waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay toooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo smallll.  WTF kind of drugz are these ppl on?!?

Do u know any secret trix to use a user interface with human-readable fonts?

The user-interfaces I tried were only suitable for 320x256 screenmode or maybe possible 640x480.  I am using 1280x1024.  The fonts are totally unreadable.   Also, no context-menus is a drawback for me.

Hi,

@ChaosLord,

Are you using the Amiga Forever version of winuae, I used this because I am a dummy for trying to set up the free winuae plus I didn't know where to get the ROMS. Anywhose, deliplayer off Aminet 15 &18 works great on my winuae. Eagleplayer works great and so does hippoplayer. The reason I bought AF was because they look at your machine and setup is automatic, I am sort of dumb, and gracefully lazy when it comes to all the headwork to set up a program. I do it when I have to, but gives me a headache.

I have no idea what your talking about, so here is a doggy with a small pancake on his head.
