I just installed Knights of the sky !!!
« on: November 09, 2018, 12:17:39 AM »
Hi all :

I had the original disks in my floppy disk case, it was there for many months (I bought them on ebay),
and I just installed the game in my amiga 2000's Hard Disk Drive.
I identified the squadron's insignia using the original manual, and took off for a flight simulation.
Everything works fine, and I really enjoyed flying.
I love Knights of the sky !!!

It's a great game to go back to especially on the weekend of 100th anniversary of the end of the 1st World War! It also can be played two player death match over a null modem cable.

One of my all time favorites, I had the Big Box version for my 12 Birthday. I also had the big box version of Willy Biemish.

KotS was / is an absolutely fantastic game with tremendous athmosphere. The only problem with it is in latter stages of the game the waves of enemies becomes relentless and really starts to detract from the feel of some of the missions, making it a drag to continue. But those early missions are an absolute joy, especially when you’re progessing up the Ace ladder and hunting the enemies Aces. Fantastic stuff!

Wait a minute... You have a hard drive? Reason I ask is because of your other thread regarding the GVP card!

Sorry for waiting so long.

@ Paul1981
My amiga 2000 came with a 50 mb hard drive.
I only have 23 mb free now.
I probably get a better bigger hard drive in the future.
I use my amiga mostly for deluxe paint and moviesetter.
The dpaint pics take little space and the movisetter anims I can save to floppy.
Actually my hard drive is good enough for now, but in the future i would like to trade up.
That is all about my hdd !!!

Because of the long delay since your last reply, I thought perhaps you had forgotten to strap yourself into your computer chair and done a loop de loop.

I too enjoy Knights of the Sky, and Wings on my A2000. They both seem to work well with a GVP '040 accelerator.

A2000 GVP 40MHz \'030, 21Mb RAM SD/FF, 2 floppies, internal CD-ROM drive, micromys v3 w/laser mouse
A1000 Microbotics Starboard II w/2Mb 1080, & external floppy (AIRdrive)

Wings runs pretty decently on an 030 as well, in my experience.

I had a 260MB hard drive at first, which I think formatted to 248MB (I still have it somewhere). I used to gain a lot of space by crunching my executables with Imploder. Sometimes I used Crunch-Mania, and PowerPacker too, although Imploder nearly always gave the best compression so I sort of stuck with it.
I used to compress all my text files such as Docs and ReadMe's etc. with PowerPacker and then use PPMore or similar to read them (instead of More). You'll be surprised how much space you can claw back.
