A4000 w/o daughterboard
« on: March 05, 2008, 06:20:48 PM »
Can I plug my Zorro card straight in the A4000 motherboard?
I'm afraid my daughterboard is faulty so I decided to plug my only Zorro card in the slot on the motherboard where usually is daughterboard plugged.

What makes you think the riser card is bad?

Is it not recognizing cards?

Does your machine not power up?

As for plugging in a zorro card directly in the mother board, don't do it as there is no proper bus termination with out the riser card, and you could cause futher damage, even tho it may work.

While we're at it, did anyone ever produce any replacement riser cards?

I said I've got only 1 Zorro card, but I've got two of them.
My Z2 card works OK, but the other one (Z3) card doesn't want to work. But I cannot say it doesn't work at all.
I thought the daughterboard was faulty, but now... I've got another idea.
My A4000 is really stable, but I still have problems with my Z3 card. Is it possible that Super Buster chip is damaged?
The Z3 card IS OK, the problem is somewhere in my Amiga hardware I suppose.

I've got just 1 Z3 card. It must be something else wrong with my hardware... :(

They are not really obsolete yet.  I use a 1Ghz Dell Desktop with Windows 3.11 but not all the PCI cards have Windows 3.11 drivers (like ethernet cards) so I used the following to replace the riser card in my Dell:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250159300735

[I use the Windows 3.11 since it's faster than the later Windows for simulation applications-- less overhead when it comes to I/O transfers and the Windows OS (when minimized) fits on a floppy.  Also prevents viruses and spyware which are usually not written for older OSes.]

OK, we want to help you out here but we need more details on your system to provide some direction.

What is your Zorro II card? (ethernet, serial card, etc..)

What is your Zorro III card? (SCSI card, video card, etc..)

What is the revision of your Buster chip?  9 or 11?

Have you tested the Zorro III card in another system?

What shows up when you hold down both mouse buttons after a soft or hard boot and checking hardware config?

My Z2 card is GVP SCSI controller A2000HC+ series2.
It doesn't make any difference whether the card is plugged in or not.
My only Z3 card is Prometheus. That PCI bridge can see any card in its slots, but none of the PCI cards work properly.
There is Super Buster 11 on board, and I use standard A3630 processor board (EC030).
I don't have any other Z3 card to test Z3 bus. I don't know anybody in my area who could lend me any Z3 card to make some tests.
Prometheus is OK (new, but I haven't tested it on any other Amiga).

Sounds more like a software driver problem to me than hardware fault. Do you have all needed Prometheus software installed and running properly? What PCI cards did you try and in what way do they fail? Unfortunately I don't have a Prometheus so I can't help you in detail...

There is not much software included to the board (prometheus library, p96, TCP/IP stack... ).
I have tried Voodoo3 and rtl8029 based net card.
I was changing different version of the software (v2.4 seems to be the best for my system although it doesn't work properly).
No successful.

Is it possible that my Amiga works properly but it just doesn't 'cooperate' with my Z3 card. I've read about that possibility on this forum (Posted on: 2008/3/4 7:49   Re: Differences between A4000D and A4000T)
My Amiga works really stable and it seems the only problem is with my Z3 card (Prometheus).

My Z3 card (Prometheus) is recognized well but the PCI cards (the system can found them as well) do not work properly.
