« on: January 07, 2012, 06:51:59 PM »
This version of prism2.device supports WPA and WPA2 encryption, including
both TKIP and CCMP (AES) encryption modes.

You can download it here: http://aminet.net/driver/net/prism2v2.lha

What's the difference between this release and the WPA2-capable one that I purchased?

Probably nothing. I also payed for it.

There's history in the readme file though, perhaps some bugs has been fixed.

@thread

a big thanks to neil for releasing this update to the general public. i've gone ahead and installed the OS4-native device on my SAM, and, so far so good with my old NETGEAR MA311 PCI NIC. also a big thanks to those that registered and allowed for continued development of this driver.

Cool.  Works for me; I'm happy to have supported its development.  Looks like I have something to keep me from reading for class tomorrow!

It seems to work, I am connected on my X1000 using the new Prism device.

IHowever it breaks the commodity WiFSignal which gives a nice display  of your connection strength and a useful dock showing you are connected.

On running WiFiSignal I now get "Please update prism2 device to at least version 1.6".

The dock also shows me as being OFFLINE which I am abviously not or I could not post this message.

It looks as if WiFiSignal needs updating to recognise that 2.4 is actually newer then 1.6 !

Is it working good?

I registered it last year for WPA support, reflashed my MA401 board. It was working until the internet connection always freezes in about 10 min. The author has worked a lot on my problem, but i have finally lost interest in it and gone back to classi wired NIC for my A1200.

You might have an old version of WifiSignal; mine doesn't do that, however it doesn't work either.  Curty is aware.

@all

If you use the new free version I'd encourage you to send a small donation to Neil for all his hard work.

What should the firmware of our cards should be? I have the one bought from AmigaKit... And how do I update the firmware? I guess I need to find some kind of 16bit PCMCIA card reader for my PC?

Translation of my swedish guide

This is how i did with my Netgear MA401 (not sure if one should use the same firmwares for other NICs).

On the PC:

Installed drivers for the MA401: http://support.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/592/session/L2F2LzEvc2lkL2dHNDlJdndr

Installed WinUpdate
Rebooted because the program wouldn't start unless i rebooted.
Started the program

Checked my current FW-version with Query Firmware Version

Downloaded the following files from http://linux.junsun.net/intersil-prism/firmware/1.7.4 (There are newer versions but Neil told me to use these)

pk010101.hex 02-Jul-2003 01:38 16K
sf010704.hex 02-Jul-2003 01:38 171K

Choosed add files in WinUpdateFlash, started with
pk010101.hex and then sf010704.hex clicked Continue to start
the flashing.

On the Amiga it was pretty simple because of nice installscript. The installer
asked for ssid and encryptionkey and created a config-file automatically and
also added the program which sets encryptionkey to the user-startup file.

I am using the latest one on OS4Depot, WiFiSignal 1.4.3 (14/02/2008).

I am glad to hear the author is aware of this, you never know if a developer is still around when the last version is from 2008.

Hmm, odd.  Maybe it's an Update 4 thing?  I haven't tried it since updating.

He even mentioned it again in December so hasn't forgotten :)

Those files look pretty old to me, so any card that's been sold the last few years should already have the latest version on them. Or not ?!?
