My EP Available now- Sequenced using Octamed
« on: September 09, 2007, 12:14:46 AM »
In a bit of a rush right now, so just a quick post I'll put more detail later on, but my EP is available now, all produced on hardware, sequenced using Octamed SS.

Get it here....

If you're into DJ Shadow, RJD2, Mr Scruff, chilled out stuff like that I reckon you'll enjoy this..

Ta for your support, if I ever make enough money I'll Re-release Octamed with all the features I wish it had right now...

sounds good to me...I like this style.. after a breif listen i'd say 'can't get out' and 'That Barcy Tune' sounded best.

I assume you use the PC version of SS?

Well, it's not really my cup of tea, but kudos to you for putting together an EP using an Amiga assuming you are not running Octamed under Windows, that is...  May I ask what other hardware you are using - perhaps a PC for sampling?

I doubt my old TechnoSound Turbo II sampler would sound terribly clean these days...and it would be a shame to ruin those lovely string samples with 8bit noise!

Cheers,
James

I'm running the Amiga version of SS, but unfortunately these days that's running under UAE.

Mostly the sounds are coming from an Akai S5000, various other sounds from a Novation Basstation, a Drumstation, a Korg Microkorg, going through a Spirit desk, and a few Behringer outboard/ effects bit. Ideally I'd like to upgrade the behringer stuff, get a nice decent valve compressor etc...

Is there any reason why you are using the Amiga version of SS over the PC version?

I dunno really, just to keep things constant - i started writing with SS on a real amiga, and then basically just put that hard drive into the PC when I sold all my Amiga kit and started using it from UAE...

Great stuff detz. Very cool that you are trying to do your best sticking with some Amiga tools.

For me the whole lines/blocks/sequence way of building up a song is very intuitive- although it may take a while to program the individual blocks, once you are there the song seems to come together almost automatically.

What I tend to do is I find a nice loop, or an idea, get that running, find some drums or program some in, and gradually build up everything I want in the song in that first block. I then play around with switching tracks on and off, so i have aroigh idea of how I want it to build up and break down etc. From there I copy/paste the individual tracks onto new blocks, duplicating where necesarry so that I have an identical block but with a fill at the end for example...

Exactly what I am doing, SS+UAE+synths. Works pretty nicely too.

Yeah I love it - it confuses nthe hell out people I know who use cubase and reason etc tho....

I'm considering using cubase as well, on a seperate PC just as a virtual synth, well a bank of virtual synths. Also for stuff where it needs to not be hard quantised, say, fro a realistic sounding piano. I know in octamed you can delay a note by as little as a third of a line, but even running 128 lines per 4 bar block I still sometimes feel that it sounds too 'programmed' obviously as most of what I do is live samples, this is not usually that much of an issue...

Nice chewnz dude. I like "Can't Get Out" the best. You have some lovely sounding clean samples in all tracks and some groovy basslines. I have fought against using PC sequencers too - the red mist descends when I think of them. If you are thinking of getting Cubase just for virtual synths you may consider getting E-Mu Proteus X2 instead. You can run this on your PC as a synth without needing a PC DAW VST environment (maybe having Amiga sequence it).

Hi,

Do you have any MP3 demos/examples?

I may be a bit dim, or slow (or both!) but I couldn't see any on the myspace page!

Cheers,

Mike.
