That does seem shady. If they want you to pay costs they should have to take you to court for them.

@Itix:

thanks!  makes sense.

@all:
I understand what Studio Peyo is doing.  Thats their work, they are protecting it, even if its for an old computer like the Amiga.   BUT...500eu?   I wouldnt pay them a penny.   I'd just stop distributing it (I wouldnt doubt it if it shows up in a torrent).    I saw the longplay on Youtube..its very well put together.

I think it requires OCS and therefore only runs on real Amiga.

Probably because it's written in Backbone.  Doesn't MorphOS have some kind of E-UAE or JIT or something, to allow it to run original Amiga software?  Out of my experience here, I have no idea. But going out on a limb I'd say it has something to do with Backbone.

You can use UAE of course. MorphOS can only run RTG software natively.

They don't demand 500€, they demand 2000€. The 500€ fee is for every copy he spreads after this.

Basically, Studio Peyo demands 2000€ for having sent an e-mail. I can't imagine that they need that much legal help to come to the conclusion that this game have breached their property rights. That doesn't "sucks", that's outright outrageous!

I think we should protest this! Demanding him to remove the game is pretty low in my opionion but it's not unresonable. But the fee?! It's scandalous!

No, Gevers Legal S.A. sent that email. Studio Peyo is supposed to be their client. Wouldn't be surprised if it turns out to be a scam of some sort, and Peyo had nothing to do with it.

You would have nothing to loose by contacting the ip holders and asking them if the letter is legit. You could explain its a fan made game and ask for permission. You have nothing to loose at this point.

Ok, true, but they are either 1, a scam company or 2, hired by Peyo. If it's 2, then it might be very well so that they act on their own but everything they do does reflect back on Peyo. Which they should know about in the first place.
