To be or not to be
« on: August 09, 2003, 11:25:27 AM »
But i want a CDTV  ;-)  Heh. Would fit with the rest of the stuff in my room. Plus ive never had one before.

Im scouring the net looking for a good one at a good price. Hopefully around £50 and under... Think its possible. If not i'll declare defeat and go for the abundant supply of A1200s out there ... :-(

The CDTV can hook up to a normal TV right, its not specific to that little monitor is it. Just i got a 28" flatscreen that needs to meet the name Amiga.

The a1200 have a bult in TVout and composit out(in color)
 :-D

by the way a CDTV is a a500 based system.

Yeh the CDTV is an A500 in disguise. But aslong as it plays Superfrog, Alien Breed and Dizzy which you can get on CD, im fine. Its got the OS if i need anything else, ill probably upgrade it maybe.

This site is nice. http://www.cdtv.org.uk/1254.html

Explains quite alot.

Is the CDVT not AGA ?
Do i really need AGA to play said games, and use the workbench etc...?

Hmm... I think you're actually looking for a CD32, not a CDTV.  The CDTV was set-top box based off the A500.  The CD32 was closest related to the A1200, had AGA, and was a game system.

As far as I know, games like SuperFrog were CD32 games, not CDTV.  (Though there were some CDTV titles, there weren't many, and the CD32 will play most of those, as well as it's own.)

You do not need a CDTV or CD32 to play games like Superfrog and Dizzy an A500(+) will surfice. You'll also find things like Zool, Moonstone, Civilization, The Monkey Island series, Assassin and many others were on this platform. Although I'm aware some of these titles had their AGA incarnations as well.;-)

You might need an A1200 (with AGA) for Alien Breed I can't remember, maybe I'm thinking of Alien Breed Tower Assault? :-? Not that I've ever played either of those. :-D

Yes. Im going to go for an A1200. Will be nice seeing that again. Gonna have to get some upgrades on it.

Thats if i find just a bog standard A1200. I may get one with stuff already with it...Hmm.

:D

--edit

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what make the joystick in this collection is.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3039223676&category=11991

I used to have it with my Amiga, and it was great, best joystick ever (never did like anyother joystick after that one) If i could get the name and make and what not, i might be able to find another one.

Looks like it's the one pictured below, A QuickShot Maverick.
I had one of these which are pretty good, second in line to the mighty Zipstick.

I have one of these in a box in the attic back at my parents house.  I remember it was good for platform games.

I agree that it was second in line to te ZipStick.  What a joystick that was!  Sega Megadrive joypads were good too.

I had them both. The quickshot was my Player 1 joystick and the (2nd in line for me) Zipstick was the Player 2 joystick hehe.

Thank you so much. Ah it brings back memories. Now, just where can i find one ?

One question i want to ask. Will older games like dizzy work on the 1200 ?

I remember playing them on the 500 then i got hte 1200. My old games like dizzy didnt work (some games that didnt work were pirated, but dizzy wasnt) I think it was either fantasy land dizzy or treasure island. Cant remember. Also which was the dizzy where you chased food around a maze like pacman. ?
