SATA to IDE adapter for A1200 & FastATA Mk5
« on: October 18, 2020, 09:53:57 AM »
I'm thinking of putting the 500gb SATA 2.5" drive I have lying around, that came out of my PS4, into the Amiga.

Obviously, it's SATA and I need to connect to an IDE interface (A1200 FastATA Mk5).

I've heard of some of the SATA to IDE adapters not working, so I'm really not sure what to buy.

Can anyone recommend an adapter that does the job with no issues?

No help sorry just that I have to ask what on earth did you fill the 160GB with ...?  Just that I have a very modest 18GB on my A4000/040d and it like is never going to get full even with a full back up of my 13000 floppy disks that I have. That's some capacity you are aiming for. I don't think there is that much Amiga data in the known universe. Thats like 550000 DD disks for a 500GB. Incredible!

Anyways I'm sure someone here will help you. Have fun.

PS I do have 40GB drives on a number of my 1200s. But I only use 4GB of them.' As you do.'

Hi im using one of these in my check mate case witha slim slot loading cdrom drive. I needed to use another adapter to convert the large sata socket to the smaller sata cdrom socket. If you using a hard drive you may not need the other adapter.

Thanks for the replies.

I've copied a lot of CDs onto my 160gb drive, but it's not full. Maybe I'm thinking more about the life left in my 160gb drive (I had an identical one of exactly the same age which died) and the 500gb drive is much newer and literally lying around at the moment.

I'll have a look at those auctions.

Thanks again! :)
