how effective do you think the graphics card will be without 3d driver support? I hope a download for it will be available.
At the moment it seems like I could have saved money with an older one and been able to use more software with it!
well, 'it depends.' :)

the 2D performance of the PCIe-based radeon HD cards is terrific on the SAM460, far and away the most performant 2D graphics of any OS4 system to date. so if you're not terribly interested in 3D FPS-style games, go with this option. otherwise you can use a radeon 9250 in the PCI slot. it's not nearly as quick as the PCIe cards, but it does have 3D support, so quake3 and the like can be played.

3D drivers for the radeon HD cards are 'coming soon' and should be discussed in greater detail at amiwest three weeks from now. but both the radeon HD cards and the older 9250 are so cheap, if you want, you could always buy 'em both. ;)

Id like to thank everyone for their discussions on this, particularly gizmo350's as he too is looking forward to getting his SAM.
I have been reading this site for a long time an these are my first few posts. It is great to share thoughts and feelings with those who are passionate about the amiga.

I take your point piru, and I am aware performance/price could be better but I have a pc and want what in my mind at least I consider to be an amiga.

I would love everyone to have the same views as me and the amiga to go in the direction I would like ie SAM. I want the amiga to stand on its own, not be a pc as commodore usa are turning it into or based around one. The x1000 will be out of my price range (unless it gets great software support not available for the SAM)

Lets enjoy what we have (its seems to be getting better) whichever side you take. The amiga community is so special, lets not spoil it.

P.s.as the conversation has turned a bit towards hardware can anyone tell me if I can use a ps/2 keyboard with the SAM460 as opposed to a USB one?

AFAIK, not without third-party hardware, no.

Regarding the radeonhd 4650, I take from this thread that hertic 2, wipeout 2097 and shogo won't work?

btw jooleem and 1941 extreme are FANTASTIC (even though i have been playing them on pc at the mo)

The AMCC 460 is rather poor performer regardless of if it is 1 or 1.15GHz. It's a rehash of the 1999 PowerPC 440 core, after all.
I'm not sure what your point is

Maybe he simply means that that this CPU is really a *poor performer* per clock cycle in comparison to others...?

Hmm...
MorphOS is Amiga done right! :)

anyone that buys a SAM is an idiot and a stupid dummy McDumDum!

Well, OK, I'll bite that bait!

Is there really *any other way* to put it, other than in the above quote?

???

Please note that *I DO* respect Acube for their effort, I *really do*, and (in opposite of Hyperion) they seem to *actually deliver* and have *a pretty good quality threshold* for their public releases!

But really, come on, buying *that* "bang" for *that* "buck"?!?!

Sorry, but no...
MorphOS is Amiga done right! :)

Piru & Grandma, we ALL get it & know you must post FUD on every AmigaOS4 specific  thread here SO please open a thread on the MOS site or this one  complaining how the used Macs are better than the Sam 460 & X1000 and please leave this thread alone

Thanks, I will check some of them out and whet my appetite for them over the next few weeks whilst I wait for my SAM!

There's about 2000 or so PS1 games you can run under FPSE.

I recommend the Syphon Filter series myself.  Just remember that if you tase someone, rest a heavy book on whatever button you have mapped to "X", then come back in about 20 minutes. x-)
Back away from the EU-SSR!

I found this really interesting, it seems that every MorphOsfan is more interested Os4 than MorphOs. They hijack every thread where Os4 is mentioned and MorphOs threads are dead empties.

Currently they are saying Sam/Os4 users as a idiots.
ACube Sam 440ep Flex 800mhz, 1gb ram and 240gb hd and OS4.1FE
A1200 Micronic tower, OS3.9, Apollo 060 66mhz, xPert Merlin, Delfina Lite and Micronic Scandy, 500Gb hd, 66mb ram, DVD-burner and WLAN.

Im think I will change the original question because I am getting a little confused as to which games will work on my SAM460.

So could you please tell me which games will run with a radeon4650hd graphics card. From this thread so far I assume shogo, heretic 2, wipeout 2097 and quake 2 won't work.

What about crossfire 2, word me up xxl, neverball, payback, freespace 1/2, the feeble files, quake

Can anyone tell me for certain if these games will work or not.

Correction, they won't work for now and probably not for a while. They should work once 3D support is available for the RadeonHD, whatever form that support eventually takes.

Thats a shame, hopefuly will be worth it later on down the line.

I guess however that the graphics card, or the onboard graphics be able to handle everyting else not requiring a 3d graphics card?

well actually no it's only the usual suspects really & shouldn't be generalized to all MOS users at all.

what's actually interesting is that post got deleted & the same crap happens time and time again here:confused:
