Any "modern" midi interfaces ?
« on: June 11, 2016, 12:35:14 PM »
Hi,

I picked up a Roland MT-32 and I'd quite like to hook it up to my A600 ... is anyone making/selling midi interfaces these days ?

Not that I know of, if you are looking for new interfaces. Creating a new interface for classic Amiga sounds like a perfect job for Sakura IT (https://sakura-it.pl/index.php) :)

For a minute I was thinking of my Sound Canvas that I tried to Hook directly to the A1200 via the serial port...

Then I remembered that the MT32 does no have that port :)

Anyway I had hoped to make it work without midi adapter, but what i suspect I needed was a new MIDI driver with a few tweaks.

There are some plans on Aminet to make one yourself. http://aminet.net/search?query=midi+interface

There's this one guy on AmiBay, that was recently selling a bunch of brand new interfaces. Even if home made they looked pretty cool. I was going to cooperate with him to produce a "professional" version, but some serious life problems got in my way and the project kind of died (as some of you probably noticed, most of my projects are on hold now). So sorry, but no new MIDI interfaces from Sakura are planned currently.

Anyway I'd ask that dude, maybe he still have a few interfaces stashed somewhere.

I'm sorry to hear that. That diskers' home-made interface looks good indeed.

Sorry for hijacking your thread Sparky, but I can't resist asking this. Strim, have you though making hardware for the Commodore 8-bits? I'm asking because I'm interested in this MIDI interface: https://sourceforge.net/projects/hermidi/

I'm almost ready to release the first batch of my MIDI interfaces. First production unit is already assembled and tested. It has been demonstrated on AmiWawa meeting (Warsaw, Poland) last Saturday working with Novation 49SL Mk II keyboard controller and Roland SD-50 sound module. We have tested MFPlay, OctaMed Soundstudio and PianoMeter.

Features of the interface are listed on my hardware page.

I will publish photos of the interface this week. Will sell on AmiBay. The price will be 18 EUR/20 USD + postage.

I'm half off topic but I just tested a Roland Sound Canvas with my MiST. It works out of the box with its built-in midi ports. So this is not a modern MIDI interface but an interface built in a "modern" Amiga replacement. Tested it with Octamed Soundstudio, Bars'n'Pipes, Music-X, Sonix. Would love to get a Doom or ScummVM port to work with it but couldn't so far.
