UAE&Amiga Drives again
« on: April 25, 2006, 05:17:49 PM »
WinUAE-Amiga HDrives. I'm running XP with A/Forever.Can we start with the basics. Who sees who with a amiga hdrive. The PC side or winuae? In other posts advice is "disable harddrives safetycheck" where? On the PC or UAE?

I have Maxtor drives taken off a 1200, that I,m trying to connect to the PC. The connection is via the USB port the drives in a xternal case. When add harddrive is clicked there is a long pause then "no amiga hard drive connected or blank drive"
Help

Hi
I had this problem but got plenty of help on here  :-)

UAE sees the hard drive, but you need to start UAE using the command prompt as follows:

C:\insert directory of UAE here\WinUAE.exe
-disableharddrivesafetycheck

all as one command

Then you can select the hard drive in UAE.

you could also make a .bat file to start UAE if you use it with Amiga hard drives a lot.

Hi Ive have added the disable the harddrivesafety check command. It works intermitently. It keeps commng up with "no amiga drive or famated drive connected" this is after I  take a bootable hard drive off a 1200 & plug it in via the USB connection. One time it saw the drive but couldn't acess the data. Any suggestions. :-?

i read in a post that after you plug the disk in ide port and run windows, the trick is NOT to install the disk in windows using the disk managment. just select it from uae, or even better from hdtoolbox using the uaescsi.device. never have try it but i believe that someone here in amiga.org could help more on this point.

Right i know its not a 3.5" HD but my Compact flash HD is setup on a real Amiga taken out put in a 7 in 1 card reader on a Windows PC  with this UAE picks it up as a Amiga HD lets me copy, delete format the CF card. I even copyed my UAE setup over to a CF card once and after deleting some piccaso libs  it booted fine on real amiga and in fact still is working fine.
Note once the CF card is formatted on the Amiga the PC (Windows) will not locate the CF card correctly ,i assume its the same for 3.5" HD. :-)

I have tried to look for the HDrive via the emulated amiga but its not visible. When ou say use uaescsi.device I presume u are meaning from the drop down screen in the configuration & harddrive screen seen on the Menu Box.

Thanks. I have had a look at the page selling CF cards. We have already pulled the 2.5" drives out of the 1200 & fitted a adpter to a long external ribbon cable where we fit 2 3.5" Hdrives. These are powered with PC power supplies. Do you think we could just get a IDE to CF card adapter & plug it in? Removing one Hard drive? Sounds to simple or is it?
