Intriguing information about Commodore's Amiga 1200 Expansion for CD32 on Wikipedia

There is some intriguing information on Wikipedia about one of Commodore's latest hardware expansions for the Amiga 1200 which is a external CD-Rom Drive that turns a Amiga 1200 into a CD32-compatible system because it featured the CD32's Akiko chip. Here's the quote on Wikipedia:

'One of its last hardware designs, however, was an external CD-ROM drive for the A1200 that featured the CD32's Akiko chip, thus turning any A1200 into a CD32-compatible system'

Hmm, that is intriguing. I wonder how they were going to connect this device. I can only conceive of a Zorro interface to make the external Akiko effective.

Not that the Akiko was effective at anything anyway

Just found out what is was. The CD1200 Prototype.

Is it possible to buy a CD1200 Prototype model any where? Would it be listed on eBay, there must be some people who have it for example ex-employees at Commodore.

Well it certainly did exist, and may still exist deep down in a landfill somewhere. As too anyone having one and active that's a low probability, for sale at a justifiable cost, even lower.

If you saw it on eBay with the person selling the Holy Grail (CD1200 Prototype), how much do you think he/she would sell it for? I read that some one bought the Commodore 65 Prototype a few years ago for $7,625. If the CD1200 Prototype ever came up for sale would it be about this price. Here's the article:

I don't see the CD1200 being anywhere near as "revolutionary" (thus desirable) as the C65.

But it might be to someone.
