Title: SuperTuxKart
Post by: xeno74 on November 29, 2010, 04:51:11 PM
We want to create an Amiga-kart with Boing ball and  with the AROS-cat as a driver. We are looking for a proposal for a  kart. If someone could post a drawing?

Would be also fun any other Eric Schwartz characters as a drivers (Sabrina, the Amiga computer of 25th aniversary tribute video.........)

I am too tired for a good drawing (tried it 4 times now), but picture this in your mind:

Kitty is kneeling - leaned forward - much like sitting on a motorcycle. If you see her from behind her feet are visible close to the tail. A Commodore logo turned sideways (so that the red and blue spikes are looking down) is the back of the seat the tail is going through the logo.

The front of the car looks like a VW Beetle - the arced front part is the half of a boing ball.

The wheels in the front are smaller than the huge back wheels. Each wheel has a boing ball in the center. The seering wheel looks like a blue butterfly. To the side of the vehicle are huge exaust pipes that resemble checkmarks in rainbow colors.

My friend and I have been working on designs for Kitty and her Kart for a while, they're all concept drawings but I haven't got them scanned in yet. I love SuperTuxKart and have been really keen to get Kitty included as soon as possible, but I'm also worried that she might not turn out looking as awesome as she should if someone without any real love for the character were to quickly whip something up to include in the game.

I've been following your thread on the FreeGameDev forums and was planning on posting the designs as soon as I can get them scanned. I really hope we can work together on this.

Installed this RC on Sunday, works quite well under Mac OSX.  Been playing the game for a short while now thanks to hearing about the game from kas1e.

In this version you can have up to 19 additional karts and 99 laps if you want to!  You can see 'further into the distance' in this version as well at a a higher resolution.  There a small handful of glitches throughout the game, but nothing major.  Snow Mountain soundtrack has changed :( I loved that acoustic track with vocal. :(

LOL on Monday I ran through the Maths Classroom track with 19 karts, 99 laps in 27mins flat   - as its the shortest track in the game.  Best time I believe off the top of my head was 11.50 seconds.  I don't recommend playing with 19 karts though as its very processor heavy, I have to drop to just 9 now, my 2ghz machine just can't cope; frame rate drops significantly.

A great play as always - hope the Amiga community can get its butt together quick enough for the artwork in time for this release is another thing.  Good luck whoever is doing it. :)

This is looking great! Yet another reason not to let my MorphOS machine collect dust. :)

Now this would violate copyrights, but it would be awesome to see Dizzy the egg as a playable character, as well as Turrican, that frog from that one platform game that everyone across seas seems to love to much, etc. :)

Good and bad news. The Good. STK MorphOS has sound at the race! The bad. See screenies:

The problem lies with the TinyGL.

This may be a good game but on my 800mhz SamFlex it's too slow to be any fun. Seems like 800mhz should be enough to smoothly run this game but obviously it's not.

This is the most ugly mascot I have ever seen. Congratulations! H.P. Lovecraft would have been amazed.

Giving a checkered ball a face is a bad idea to begin with.

Well I do share your thoughts here, it would be better to place Amy, Sabrina or another Amiga identifiable character...

A bit more like the AROS Kitty kart done by tommywright:

In my view better achieved...

Although tommywright says that he will be improving the character and the kart model: http://aros-exec.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?post_id=56452#forumpost56452

Anyway, it's good to see the Amiga OS'es making an appearance on a recent game :)...

Actually I've got to say that I tried last night with my son and was well impressed with the game. Of course it was with HW accelerated GFX (not software rendering)...

I did try the Kitty character, although my soon liked the Emule one! ;)

It has icon and logo improvements...

I'm trying to do the 0.62 export of the model...

The Good news:
I've exported the model to AC3D files to work with STK 0.62! I've also done a kitty icon image to suit the 3d style of that version.

The bad news:
It loads, and plays - unfortunately the model textures don't seem to work properly, and there wheels keep on appearing and disappearing during the game.
If someone wishes to address this - be my guest! I've done my best...

Anyway just try for yourselves - it's on AROS-Archives (in upload section):
http://archives.aros-exec.org/download.php?file=queue/kitty0.62_zip.readme

Later will be on game/driving section (as well as the 0.7b and blender original files):
http://archives.aros-exec.org/index.php?function=browse&cat=game/driving

Edit: AROS/AmigaOS/MorphOS really need the version 0.7 of STK - it's much better in most respects!

Post by: hardwired on June 13, 2011, 05:58:34 PM
Solved the face texture issue and the disappearing wheels in game.

Only the logo didn't quite make it...

Anyway I will try to replace the old file in the AROS-ARCHIVES! (Sorry for the double submission ppl)
