A video capture device? Lame guess, I know, but I am stumped.
-
Ok let me guess :)
1) New zorro video card
Hell yea, but that would be too awesome for it to be real.
-
I'm thinking some kind of joystick. Looking forward to the announcement...
-
The SDRAM plug in card mentioned a few months ago!
-
Mouse pad?
-
Videotoaster (the new ones) with support for Amigas?
-
A new Amiga "Boing" Hammer...
-
My Guesses are:
#1: A MouseMaster! I am guessing this because they are very useful and I really really need 5 of them! If I get one for free from u then I only hafta buy 4 more. :) It u don't know what a MouseMaster is then it is a little switchbox that allows you to switch between joystick and mouse so u don't hafta constantly unplug mouse and plug in joystick , repeat, over and over and over again during Amiga gaming parties.
#2: The adaptor to allow connecting PlayStation controllers (including guitar) to Amiga! If I win one of these then I will only hafta buy 3 more. Woohoo!
#3: A real joystick with real 2 buttons for playing Amiga 2-button games. This would be very nice!
-
discreetfx minimigs
-
A Flicker Fixer
-
FPGA Arcade. Absolutely for classic fans.
-
a DSP card !
-
InstaCam for the Video Toaster?
-
My guess it isn't really a secret or expensive. It is an Arduino.
-

I've already got one of each of these.
The Sega Mastery System Controller seems to work with most 2 Button games I've tried, and I use this in order to use my PSX Controllers as CD32 Controllers, and more:

Write him, he might build you one.
-
Mass produced PS2-CD32 adapters would be a dream come true, and such a marketable product. If anyone were willing, I'm sure Paul wouldn't mind providing the pre-programmed PIC chips.
-
Why have just one when you can have two.
-
if your the first one to guess what this super secret hardware is before june 30th, you will get one for free.
Natami!
:)
EDIT:
It also coincides pretty well with the release time of the two EfikaMX products ("Smartbook" and "Smarttop"). "Why have just one when you can have two. (http://www.amiga.org/forums/showpost.php?p=566649&postcount=19)". "Finally! It has been a long time coming (http://bbrv.blogspot.com/2010/04/finally.html)". Maybe with UAE and OS3.x preinstalled and preconfigured, otherwise it doesn't really match. :)

Quote - "Mystery Hardware for Classic Amiga - New super secret Amiga hardware is coming to the DiscreetFX iStore on June 30th, 2010."
So it's for the classica amiga...
PPC accelerator
-
new 060 accelerators with sdram would be nice.
-
Phased plasma rifle with a 40 watt range? ;)
-
Bill,
It sounds exciting whatever the product may be :-)
Classic Amiga hardware is always very much welcome.
-
Videotoaster (the new ones) with support for Amigas?
ehhehe, VIDEO TOASTER NTSC/PAL :)
discreetfx minimigs
- discreetfx X1000 :)
- discreetfx natami :)
new 060 accelerators with sdram would be nice.
060+PPC for a good price: OS4.x for all!!!!!!!!!!!! (impossible)
Humm hummm, I think like other that it'll be something not very expensive (hope)..
- something like USB adapter;
- memory expansion (128MB or 512MB);
- mouse adapter;
- a little ZORRO II/III graphic card (??);
- turboaccelerator for all AMIGA;
- AMIGA.COM website reopen ;)
- AMIGA sound card with multiple PAULA (like my old project with Exolon/FAIRLIGHT)
- a NEW AMIGA 500 in a joystick (like C64 Direct-to-TV);
Hope that it'll be something that can be used by NTSC/PAL system.
(what we wrote is the reflects our wishes)
-
Indivision ECS?
My guess after the "Why have just one when you can have two." clue.
-
Dual Port Joystick to usb adapter.
-
An updated MiniMig with built in ARM, 4MB ram and case?
Lets see, for Classic... new CPU or video board for the big box Amigas?
Andy
-
FPGA Arcade. Absolutely for classic fans.
This.
-
Some hardware solution that adds or replaces your or to your chip memory to give you 2 meg chip in total
-
Xena card for the A500 trapdoor?
-
Gabriele sidekick for the Xena card :D
-
A cannon....you put your A500 in it and fire it and your Amiga breaks the sound barrier? lol
Some kind of G4 or better PPC accelerator for A1200 with 256mb RAM and SATA on board.
-
Well, I'd certainly like to see(BUY) the new $99 A1200/3000/4000 combo board with the 1.8GHz G4,80MHz 040,USB,SD card,and enhanced 24 bit 1920x1200 full-motion video in/out !!!!!!
-
Please make it be an accelerator card for the A500+!! please!! ...
p.s. - I would also be 'content' with some magic chip that gives AGA capability to the A500 ;)
-
Punch card reader? That would totally rock...
-

Natami!
:)
Drat! You beat me to it!
-
Punch card reader? That would totally rock...
Cassette deck interface with C64 emulator rocks harder ;)
-
FireWire
-
An AGA Minimig/Video toaster combo unit.
-
The 30th of June? that's my 40th birthday, maybe DiscreetFX should send me one anyway just to be nice, whatever it is. :)
-
A life?!
-
- A modern network solution (i.e. Zorro or other type of network card)
- One of those joystick to mouse switches....let you have a joystick and mouse hooked up to the same port and switch between them.
- a dual monitor switcher
-
AmigaTWO (i.e. the next-gen AmigaONE)
-
AmigaTWO (i.e. the next-gen AmigaONE)
You might have been joking, but there is actually truth behind your statement. Amiga One was supposedly the first PPC NG Amiga from Amiga Inc (based on the Pegasos and "Escena"). It would be single core, hence the "one". It would be followed by a dual core variant at some time, and that would actually be called "Amiga Two". It's teh true!!1!
Really, it is!
:)
EDIT: And this is probably why Hyperion persists with the rather strange version numbering of their OS, i.e.:
OS4.1
OS4.1.1
OS4.1.2 ... etc, etc
What I'm getting at is that IIRC OS4.2 would supposed to have SMP. And maybe they are saving that particular version number for this occasion for "nostalgic" reasons? Not that it will ever have *true* SMP, at least not in a way that it would be recognized as such by "outsiders", at least not without breaking the last parts of "Amiga" it has in it. And I guess it will still be called "AmigaONE"... ;)
-
Yeah, but I'm probably wrong as Pyromania explicitly mentioned _classic_ amiga hardware...
so here's me scratching my head again as to what could it be that comes in two-s...
The only thing that springs to mind as something that might actually be useful is a dual graphics card solution. Final guess.
-
@Pyromania
"DiscreetFX iStore"
Why "iStore"? Sounds very Apple.
Just curious.
-
- A modern network solution (i.e. Zorro or other type of network card)
That would be great.
But it would undoubtedly cost about the same as a Mediator daughterboard and PCI Ethernet card.
Only Amiga makes it possible.
-
Wireless Card would be nice ...

-
RS232-powered Pop Corn maker.
-
Ok, let's sum up things, "super secret" has to be something bigger than a cheap thing like a joystick or adapter, "for Classic" and 1st one to guess get's one. So noone has guessed yet ?
My 1st guess is a new sound card.
I'd say a PPC accelerator but that is probably dreaming too high and someone has made that guess already before.
-
Maybe is a hardware encryption gizmo that hides all your pr0n & wares.... that sounds "discrete" ;-)
Personally, I like the idea of licensing the NatAmi or FPGArcade boards...
-
A new, customized keyboard.
-
An adapter for the Optimus Maximus keyboard together with an Amiga compatible layout.
-
Gotta love Terminator
I'm glad someone appreciates a sense of humor.
-
Well lets see, the "FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE" (bold and caps-lock broken) is obviously the 2010 version of "exciting news", which can lead to only one guess, hot air.
The whole post was about carrot-dangling and creating pages of replies with 0 contents, so it must be something boring, useless and outright bizzare.
Mmm bizzare and hot air ? ........
....... Amiga-branded canned fa#### ......
Yep your right, I 100% hate attention-who##### pseudo-news with 0 contents.
-
Wait! I got it.
A cpu that's a neural-net processor..... a learning computer.
:roflmao:
The A600 series had plastic composite skin. We spotted them easy. But these are new. They *LOOK* Amiga. Guru Meditations, no software support, antiquated hardware. I had to wait until there were no Amigans left, until I could zero it.
LISTEN AND UNDERSTAND! Amiga Inc. is out there. It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity or remorse or fear and it absolutely WILL NOT STOP, *EVER*....... until the Amiga is dead.
*snort*
I kill me.
-
What about a Quantum Computer ZorroIII card?
-
A 2 Yottabyte SSD
-
Not all Amiga users have USB ports. What is an Amigan to do if he wants a USB desk lamp, but does not have USB ports? It has got to be a Desk lamp, powered by the floppy port with pass through so floppy drives are not affected.
-
They say Things Happen in Three's.
-
A life?!
Was that a reply to my post? I sincerely hope not.
-
I hope it's an electric cheese grater! In fact I'm willing to bet that that's what it is! An electric cheese grater powered by the 1200's clock port!
-
I believe that Pyromania's last post was a hint! This might mean that we're talking about some board that covers 3 different expansion needs. :-)
Say, definitely an accelerator of some sort, with an IDE (or maybe SATA?) i/f, and room for say an ff or USB maybe? hmmm
-
The mathematical formula below relates to mystery hardware #2 and does not apply to mystery #1 or 3.
1 = 3
-
3 in 1 u say.....
Hardware 2)
CPU with ram accelerator (classed as 1)
Sata (was Graphics card)
USB (was Sound card)
Now i say PRICE and Delivery TO Sydney!!!
wait just thought about it 3 in 1 is hardware 2.. but u have 2 more hardware coming??????????
1) Graphics Card
3) Sound Card
-
They say Things Happen in Three's.
Ok, with your hints I will take a serious guess.
A new Voodoo 3 zorro video card based on the Prometheus design.
-
The mathematical formula below relates to mystery hardware #2 and does not apply to mystery #1 or 3.
1 = 3
Err, too early to read that hint, must drink more coffee.
-
OK i want these Hardware......... "waves cash in air" 'looks around to make sure wife doesn't see the money...... :D'
-
Err, too early to read that hint, must drink more coffee.
I am thinking he means 3 different hardware and number 2 is a 3 in 1......... fingers crossed... :D
-
Most things have been covered, so my guess is based on my wishlist more than anything, but being that discreetfx have a bit of a video background it's not completely unrealistic a guess, and that's some sort of rtg gfx hardware for 68k classics w/o the need for pci busboard, zorro slots, etc.
-

IMHO, I believe that prospect is way too ambitious a project for just about anyone to tackle these days. Same goes with most any video, audio or CPU upgrades. Besides, Jens/Individual Computers and GVP already have those bases covered.
Nah... I'm thinking something much, much simpler and universal here. Especially the way they verbalized the rollout: "help you get more enjoyment out of your Amiga". With emphasis on 'Amiga'. Period. Not every Amiga has a Zorro/Fast/Video slots (some models have surface mounted CPU's too), so I'm thinking maybe some kind of a new DB9 input device, a joystick or something that has already been mentioned.
Maybe an external FF/SD, external removable mass media storage (perhaps off the parallel port) or... ?
Absolute best upgrade for ANY Amiga would be to patch gaming software that relies on pressing 'UP' to jump, to a discrete button on a 2+ button pad or joystick and completely removing the instruction that allows a jump when accidentally pressing 'UP'. Either way, can't wait to see what it is
-
I think it's some sort of a zorro 3 card that is:
a video card
a ram card
a flash memory based storage card
-
3D glasses
-
Not all Amiga users have USB ports. What is an Amigan to do if he wants a USB desk lamp, but does not have USB ports? It has got to be a Desk lamp, powered by the floppy port with pass through so floppy drives are not affected.
No that's Retro!:roflmao:
-
They say Things Happen in Three's.
happens in threes, huh?
A parallel bedroom Peeping cam!
-
A video company.
"that will help you get more enjoyment out of your Amiga."
RGB to s-video adapter
DUUHHH.
-
RGB to s-video adapter
You think? S-Video or Component would be nice. If so, I hope it'll play with both PAL/NTSC modes nicely. If not, guess I'll be sticking to my trusty RGB monitors.
-
Could it be a giant stack of old new stock Amiga 1200s ?
Possibley found in Al Capones secret vault?
-
Guesses,round #2
#1 Some type of new video gizmo to allow higher resolution and use of modern LCD monitors(It only says Discreet never sold this type product before ,not that no one has sold it before0.
#2 New networking solution to allow two Amigas to run as a dual-processor inut!
#3 Program to run on x86 machines but using the Amiga classic as I/O (similar to but not UAE.
-
You think? S-Video or Component would be nice. If so, I hope it'll play with both PAL/NTSC modes nicely. If not, guess I'll be sticking to my trusty RGB monitors.
Well as good a guess I can think of. It's hardware, from a mostly software company so it can't be something too sophisticated or expensive. Some kind of adpater.
'Retro fans" - I equate this also with 'retro gaming' so that's what it can read into the post.
The other good idea (mentioned already) is that they have come into some old stock of some hardware bit, and going to sell'em off on us. - hmmm.
EDIT --------------------
"never sold this type of brand new hardware before"
I don't think it's old stock something now... they made it or had it made by some one else...
-
...a cheap (external?) flicker fixer / scandoubler for all AMIGA??????
-
a very very very very fast c2p-Akiko ?
-
a new ppc accelerator!
-
I think some of you guys expectations are running a little high on this?. I'm not trying to be negative but, "Hardware out of nowhere" for the Amiga might not be too spectacular!
;)
-
My guess is that it will be some sort of Parallel to USB printer adapter or some other legacy Amiga I/O to USB/HDMI/VGA/PS/XBOX adapter.
Lots of guesses in under 30 words ;)
-
50 dollar amiga-branded t-shirts with free coupon?
-
Ethernet interface for All AMIGA?
-
50 dollar amiga-branded t-shirts with free coupon?
Someone did that one already.
:)
-
An FPGA accelerator upgrade for classic Amiga's with Audio, Graphics and maybe USB . . . :)
-
A dual PPC accelerator (68k + ppc) like the Phase5's. Why have one PPC amiga when you can have 2 ? It would also include a gfx card and some sort of controler (hence 3= 1 or 1= 3 or whatever...).
This would be a pretty good excuse for some of us to get a system that can run the latest versions of the OS since it could also be used as a 68k accelerator and can run classic hardware banging apps.
-

Yes, please no more thongs. Tacky tacky tacky, and the butt cord always turns brown and red...

You're such a cynic haha!!
Sorry I have a cold..
-
A quantum computer of course.
-
As long as it's not a Quantum Leap that wasn't.
-
I was going though some old amiga magazines and I think I've found something....
Siamese v4,PCI Amiga
Siamese RTG v4 software...
Pc/Alpha ....AmigaOS3.x/WinNT/Mac(BasiliskII,Shapeshifter,etc)...
Siamese v4 PCI Amiga also has a full but miniaturised Amiga Video slot on board.
This with a special adaptor and external box will hold the Newtek Video Toaster card.
You guys forgot about me....
http://www.amiga-hardware.com/showhardware.cgi?HARDID=41
DiscreetFX has the iStore , I guess they are getting ready to sell Mac software
to amiga users to run on AOS4.x systems(iFusion for Aos4)???...
They say Things Happen in Three's.....
Three OSes running at the same time in one system....A MultiOS environment...???
Pc/Alpha ....AmigaOS3.x/WinNT/Mac(BasiliskII,Shapeshifter,etc)...
MacOS x86 version could have AmigaOS3.x/MacOSx/WinXP
A1/Sam ppc version could have AmigaOS4.x/AmigaOS3.x/Mac(ifusion ppc)
Why have just one when you can have two...
Maybe you can run multiple Siamese v4/PCI Amigas at the same time..???
Retro Amiga fans will be very pleased...
Dont Laugh at me I know how to spell Positive.....:):):):)
-
Text saying "It is finally here!"
-
I keep coming up with a 3 in 1 device that for audio i/o, av editing in different formats to accomodate multi countries, along with a virtual acceleration for 3d rendering.
1) Breaking the sound barrier = audio i/o device, maybe mp3
2) virtual processor for 3d rendering acceleration
3) a/v i/o in varying formats to allow outside the US to enjoy a/v editing on the Amiga.
And 1 = 3 works as in you need improved audio to do a/v editing better.
So there is my guess.
-
Phased plasma rifle with a 40 watt range? ;)
Hey, just what you see pal.
-
So, what is it?
-
So, what is it?
Nobody knows. 6 hours 51 minutes left till they do :)

-
My coundown just ended. "It's finally here!". So i guess they're not releasing 00:00 norwegian time. :P
-
Maybe it's the PAL version of the Toaster that was never released, with extra added hardware for IO, audio and 3D.
-

ehhehe, VIDEO TOASTER NTSC/PAL (http://www.amiga.org/forums/showpost.php?p=566697&postcount=27)
If it's that, I'm the winner...or ALL EUROPEAN AMIGA FANs will be the winners :) if the TOASTER is is not expensive! :biglaugh:

Joystick ! and fluff ! Wow....what hype...what hogwash!

-
I'm dissapointed too.
-
Joystick ! and fluff ! Wow....what hype...what hogwash!
.....Never knowingly Undersold.....try knowingly oversold !
We delivered the hardware that our Amiga Video Toaster customers were asking for. The joystick was just an added bonus.
-
-
Its too hard to stay mad at Pyromania...
He really is such a nice bloke. :)
I must admit I had some high expectations though, minimigs, indivisions etc.. comp pro is kinda meh... ;)

SSD drives for video toaster and comp' pro joystick, nice, though I think you got us non-toaster guys super-excited ya big meaney :P

They do sound pretty mysterious, no size listed or anything.

My Guesses are:
#2: The adaptor to allow connecting PlayStation controllers (including guitar) to Amiga! If I win one of these then I will only hafta buy 3 more. Woohoo!
I might have one of them. I have a big black box with 2 wires with joystick plugs on the
end. The box itself has 2 PS1 joypad ports and 2 memory card slots.
Don't know how to use it so I was going to sell it on ebay but decided not to because I don't actually know what it is
-
Must say I am a bit disspointed by this also. With all the hype and countdown and all thought it was something special, like new ppc card, or video card or of the scale of minimig or something.
But any hardware for classic hardware is good and I am sure welcom by VT users.
-
Cool idea on the flyer stuff. For the folks in Europe this Flyer system as great. I used two of these daily until 2005/2006. The systems wre retired simply becuase I could no longer relaibly source parts (Amiga 4000's) and the fact that the Tricaster and a VT5 and good laptop are easily replaceable and more versatile.
IT would be cool to see the flyer and Toaster 4000 integrated into 1 card using and FPGA solution. You could probably do the whole thing in one chip I reckon.
-
Over Hyped and now feel disappointed
-
HAHAHAHA.
What did you get Charlie Brown ?
- I got a rock.
-
(http://mittyzx.files.wordpress.com/2009/11/son_i_am_disappoint.gif)
This is not what I wanted for my A4000!
-
you do know these have been available at ... uh, everywhere in the world for a few years now? That clever Amiga users have been using flash cards as SSDs for ages? Etc. etc.?
And a JOYSTICK well slap my ass and call me sally.
-
Disappointed!
-
Who will put up the first fail-image? :)
j/k (ok, 50% kidding, 50% serious).
-
Pffffffffffffffffffffffffffffft!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Any of you really though it would be something more than a joystick: How is this different from any other hype that's being spewed around lately? At least they delivered, unlike some.
-
I am hereby announcing today that I am releasing a brand new Amiga product no Amigan can live without! In fact, it's so awesome you may want to buy many of them! These are brand new just for classic amiga users and as a result are available for the low low price of $1500 each!

hahahaha!
I have no dog in this fight but that is fucking hilarious! Delivered? Delivered? What the HELL did they deliver? They bought a half pallet of joysticks and SSDs from a wholesaler and that constitutes "delivering"? By that logic UPS is a hub of computer super-geniuses!

Oh go on, care to elaborate some more?
-
All this for that ? You're joking right ?!

Do they come in just the one colour? Dissapointing
-
Although the products aren't much interest to me personally, $195 to replace all three SCSI drives in a Flyer with an SSD solution seems like a pretty good deal.
-
slap my ass and call me sally.
Wow it's like a two-for-one sale!
-
I'm just here to say "I told you so".
-
I'm thinking some kind of joystick. Looking forward to the announcement...
We are not sure how Matt_H guessed one of the products so quickly? He wins a free Competition Pro Joystick for his on the money guess.
-
EDIT: And this is probably why Hyperion persists with the rather strange version numbering of their OS, i.e.:
OS4.1
OS4.1.1
OS4.1.2 ... etc, etc
Actually, its OS4.1 Update 1, OS4.1 Update 2. The reason for it is very simple indeed; the updates to OS4.0 were called "July update", or "Final update", with no consistency.
Now, there is consistency. Think of "Update" like "Service Pack", or "Boing Bag" but not as horrible.
-
Well, ofcource I was a bit disapointed since I diden't want anything of the "mystery amiga hardware", tho it's better then nothing I suppose :/
-
I don't usually comment on these things, but yeah...very disappointing...
DiscreetFX should have known better than to overhype a rather simple item such as a joystick, as a mystery hardware. Totally unnecessary, and what should have been done was simply post a news item about how batches of brand new joysticks are in.
It'd be different if you indicated ahead of time that this were a fun guessing game, don't take it too seriously type of thing.
Anyways...not that it matters...just felt like posting my 2 cents worth of comments. :-)
-
I wish it was more of a substantial product. Although for the video toaster market the SSD packaged solution is very nice.
The Joystick is nice, having a local North American source.
I don't want to blame DiscreetFX here, they had their own excitement. Maybe we are at fault, since many of the users hyped this up themselves (myself included) about really cool classic hardware like new ppc accelerators...
So we did it to ourselves! :)

Oh I didn't think it'd be anything of the kind - besides, a run of new PPC cards...the cards alone would cost more than that xk1k1000x thing.
No, I thought they'd be going in the direction of maybe a new ZIII card of some kind, or ... shit, I dunno. Commissioned a mini-mig aga run or something.
Grabbing two bulk PC items off the shelf and foisting them off with the hype they did though is just stupid.
-
Hey!
On page six I did come close on item #3 ; I was thinking of AF when I said an emulator not UAE ,just didn't expect all this hype over things that already exist.
I am sorely disappointed by the promtion of items practically identical toitems long available elsewhere .
Joysticks are nothing special,I have dozens-every ex-Amigan/C= user has loads they throw in the deals.
IDE and SCSI to flash and SSD adapters can be ordered direct from Hong Kong-I have had them for months.
Amiga Forever is a very nice package for those who want a ready to go solution-I have had AF for years.
Let me again publically thank Discreet for the A4D from Christmas contest.
That said, this "new hardware" announcement deserves a big yawn,if not a BOO!
No wonder people think Amiga users are stupid in these days of quad-core multi-GHZ Wintel machines!!!!
-
a MiniMig on a PCI or PCI-E card would be awesome ;)
Ok, there I go again hyping :)

minimig aga on pci would be tres awesome (or pcie although I don't have a spare PCI-e slot! :o )
-
Nah... I'm thinking something much, much simpler and universal here... I'm thinking maybe some kind of a new DB9 input device, a joystick or something that has already been mentioned.
Hahahahahah, I *knew* it! For anyone that is disappointed, I think it's really funny - the way they hyped this. It's obvious they have a sense of humor :)
No need to make a mountain out of a mole hill here people, you should have known better! lol

OMG, you knew! And you didn't warn us? By staying silent, you were aiding the disappointment. ;)

For toaster/flyer users, I think such replacement drives may be a good idea. I might purchase in the future, once I get a chance to start using my overheating t/f system again. Sure, it was overhyped, but I'm grateful that there's still support for classic Amiga video production!!
-
I think this is hilarious! Could it be a comment on the "new" X1000 Amiga - thinly disguised?

dear lord YOU CAN BUY AN SSD FROM NEWEGG NOW!
*facepalm*
oy, amigans...
-
jeez some of you guys really have to grow up:bitch:
@ DiscreetFX
so how's Alladin4D on AmigaOS4.1 shaping up eh:)
-
Perhaps this is the way we should have marketed ZorRAM (http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=958) a few weeks ago when we launched it for the Classic Amiga :-D
-
ZorRAM definitely calls for more fanfare than a joystick and an SSD.
-
A 2 Yottabyte SSD
So I was right! :)
-
@amigakit, tone007
ZorRAM is a great product.
@klx300r
Over 3000 hours have gone into the development of Aladdin 4D 6.0. Internal Beta 6.0.0.5 came out on June 24th, 2010.
-
For Aladdin IT'd be cool to have future publishing's 3d World (or 3d Artist) cover Aladdin 4D . Future publshing has strong Amiga roots. I beleive their first mag was the legendary UK Amiga format. I think that would be a cool story.
Ben Vost (former editor) and NewTek Europe employee fondy recounted some nice last day of Amiga format stories. Mainly going to a pub and drinking to the demise.
Nick Vitech still works for FUTURE ... in thier linux mag I think...
So there are some Amiga die hards over there.

Yes, but you can't buy a SCSI one.

But I'd rather buy from a company that supports Amiga.

I didn't say you couldn't buy one anywhere, just that you couldn't buy one from Newegg as you had previously suggested.
-
Has anyone found out what size the ssd's are?

I'm very interested by these 2 units. Can I upgrade all my AMIGA with these new pieces ? Do you have the pink color model with 060/PPC included ? :biglaugh:

BUMP!
Has anyone found out what size the ssd's are?
@Pyromania,
I guess I should have directed the above question to you in the first place. I could not find the size of the SSD's that are for sale on the DiscreetFX site, or any specific information regarding connection to a Flyer card SCSI controller with or without adapters needed.
I have purchased several newer Ultra160 & Ultra320 SCSI drives to replace my aging Flyer drives, but have not yet gotten them setup and recognized by either of my Flyer systems. If I am unable to use the drives I already have purchased, I would be interested in purchasing another alternative, but need details.
-
Personally I would have welcomed an announcement of all the products that DIDN'T try to fool us into thinking something entirely new and fantastic was coming.
It is good that you are providing all three products .
But I wonder if anyone really thinks mocking customers is a way to increase sales?I once worked for a tractor dealer who ridiculed his customers who wanted parts for older equipment. He hoped that would be shamed into buying new tractors. He is long ago out of business, and lasted only a few years .
I have to still think Commodore's ads of the 1990s were the most ineffective as those ads used minimal images of the computer but instead too many non-computer cartoon figures and lots of words that readers simply flipped past. And spending your ad budget in magazines for people who already own your product is odd targeting if you want new customers.
Certainly this generated a lot of interest.
-
BUMP! (again)
What are the sizes of the SSD's offered on the DiscreetFX site for use with an Amiga Video Toaster/Flyer system and do they connect directly to the Flyer's 50pin SCSI controllers?
BUMP!

Good news to me!
The $99 (or $149 for 2) for a SCSI SSD seems like a good price - I dont have to do any hunting to find a rare scsi2ide converter and small IDE SSD that will work together, so
thank you Pyromania.
I'm guessing the capacity will be in the 1 to 4Gb range - which is fine - I want to get one to replace the 4Gb conner (50pin) drive I have on my GVP040 in my A2000.
I hope it will work with HDtoolbox and use normal RDBs ok...
P.S. I agree that ZoRAM is great and I'm getting one soon.
-
Sorry for the delay guys, SSD sizes are 8 GB each.
-
Only 8gig each? An entery level amount of space but sufficiant for small projects.
I assume an external drive scsi bay and the flyer scsi cable are still needed for this solution. Some photos of the setup would be nice.
