wooohooo I have myself a laptop!
« on: April 10, 2004, 07:47:48 PM »
Im dead chuffed with myself now, Ive just won a powermac from ebay for a very tidy sum of money :-)

I was originally after one of redrumloa's laptops but postage costs to the UK would of crippled me.

Good thing is, whith a laptop I can write my show reports on the way back from the show so I can have the report online even quicker than before :-)

oh yeah... the link to the auctions here: ebay.co.uk

The spec isn't exactly good, but then I think it isn't an x86 machine, and the OS can't be far from the classic Amiga OSs as it is one of the Mac OSs from the time, so it shouldn't run slow anyway.

What is the size and battery life like anyway?

Hey Ryu, if it's OpenFirmware based you could try AROS, it looks like we are going to see some movement in the PPC port soon.

It looks more like a m68k machine 16MB Ram,800mb hd system7.5.3

So no AROS before the m68k port is finnished  :-)

nah its NuBus not openfirmware. Ive looked into linux but even the choice there seems quite limiting. I think I'll just get MacOS8.6 for it once ive upgraded the ram that is.

actually its a powerbook1400cs/117. That means its a 117mhz PowerPC603e not a 68k machine :-). Even so I expect it to be slow with no ondie cache, but I can get a sonnet G3 card for it. But my first upgrade will be more ram...

Wheels not included :-)

I always wanted to do an amigalaptop based on the Access, it´s a bit smaller and better specs than a A600.

The 1400 series was designed to be portables with personallity.  They feature a clear exterior panel called a "Bookcover", which lets you personalize the appearance of you powerbook.  You can add some wild and funky covers.
