I just picked up an Amiga 2000HD last night (late) and I haven't had a chance to set it all up yet, but I am chompping at the bit to get going with it.  There were a ton of floppies included (who knows if they still work) but I am curious as to what all I can do with my new rig.  I am a Linux/x86 nut, so I am looking forward to this new OS/hardware that I don't know anything about!  Should be fun, hopefully I'll see you round the forums.

Hi :-)

Enjoy your stay... The place is so addictive, you'll never leave ;-)

Seriously, if you have questions about anything amiga related (and plenty that isn't), this (along with amigaworld) is the place to be.

Welcome to Aorg and the Amiga community!

Take a look on Aminet for cool utils, back2roots for cool (legally downloadable commercial/pd) games
there are a few transfer tools from pc->amiga (via com-port), if you're lucky you got a basic compiler on the Miggy and you can compile yourself a free transfer program called 'wartrans' iirc, otherwise there's Cloanto's AmigaExplorer, wich works great. To use hd disks with a dd diskdrive you can simply put tape on the left hole of the disk.
Also, with some soldering around, you can solder yourself a joystick-mouse switch (soldering scheme can be found on Aminet, visible with for instance the program AHAview under Windows, dunno a viewer on Linux wich can view this kind of files)
just some of my hobby practices

happy computing :-)

Well now that the 1k+ posters have bid you welcome, hello from the miniscule Amiga UNIX side of the house ;-)  Amiga.org is a lot of fun, so I think you will enjoy yourself whatever route you take with your new-to-you Amiga.
