Hello
Iv just received my copy of OS4.1 for classic Amiga, although I dont have any real hardware to run it on I really want to try it out.
Trying to set it up with FS-UAE 2.6.2, wondering if anyone has any experience with this?
There seems to be a preset config for '3.1 ROM, CyberStorm PPC (Amiga OS 4.x) and I have added the following lines form a how-to I found on Google:
cpu = 68060
cpuboard_flash_file = /home/looren/AmigaOS4.1/cyberstormppc_44.71.rom
graphics_card = picasso-iv
hard_drive_0_controller = ide0
hard_drive_0_type = rdb
motherboard_ram = 8192
uae_cpu_model = 68060
uae_cpu_type = 68040
uae_cpuboard_type = CyberStormPPC
uae_cpuboardmem1_size = 128
uae_fpu_model = 68060
And in the "Kickstart ROM" I have loaded: Kickstart-v3.1-rev40.70-A4000.rom
But when I click 'Start' I get error message: Did not find any required Kickstart or ROM.
No idea what to do next, somebody got any idea?

Go to the English Amiga Board, eab.abime.net and search there. You will find fantastic guides to help you.

This should help. :)

I guess you are referring to: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=75195 ?
I have already tried this, seems massively outdated. Also, still have no idea why I would get error messages for the ROM.

You do have the CSPPC ROM don't you?
-
I guess you mean 'cyberstormppc_44.71.rom' ? If so, yes

Are you using a Linux distro or OSX?
I don't know about on OSX but on Linux WinUAE under WINE performs better than FS-UAE natively and is more straightforward to set up too.

nicholas; on linux
winaue on wine, that made me chuckle :) emuinception...
thanks for the suggestion, I will give it a try!

Sounds crazy doesn't it? But it really does work better lol

Trying to set it up, found this tutorial although it might perhaps be a bit outdated to:
http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=74776
"7) Change the "HD Controller" to IDE, 0"
In the current version of WinUAE it says IDE (Auto) and 0 can be set next to it, although when this is done and I start up the WB 3.1 install adf and start 'HD Toolbox' nothing is listed there. Any ideas?

Silly me, completely missed the first line of the thread in the howto: Part 1 is not needed since QEMU PPC core was added
Im on part 2 now: 15) In "Floppy Drives" insert the Amiga OS 4.0 boot floppy into the drive.
I have the floppy disk, although I have no working floppy drive atm.
Where might I get the boot floppy as file? Searched on Google, but can not seem to find anything there.

You might be able to download it from Hyperion?
The latest beta of WinUAE 3.2 might run it better too.

Was running 3.1, so I will give it a try
I had a loop at hyperions webpage under downloads, but no boot floppy there I am afraid..
-
the adf of the boot floppy is on the cd
-
JJ: Ah, thank you!
*booting* ^^
-
So everything seems to be booting up nicely, albeit slow :) but I run in to some problems when partitioning the drive. I have the drive set up through WinUAE and it appears in the HD tool, and I can modify/save etc. Although in the last column it says 'Faulty RDB'. Not sure what this is or what to do about it. I have added a partition to the drive, but it does not appear when I run the installer.

Only set this up in Fs-use so not sure if you same.When you u ran the media toolbox did you install a file handler and set the dos type. ? You would then need to have formatted the drive before you can install to it
-
You don't need the floppy to boot, you can configure CSPPC in early startup to use CD0 as boot device and boot straight off the iso.

This is what I did in fs-uae. Think their issue is with the HDD setup
-
JJ: By DOS type, you mean file system? I tried changing it, but it goes back to RDSK
Not sure what 'file handler' is?
kolla: I tried in FS-UAE again, changed to A1200 and loaded the 1200 rom and this seemed to work. Only used the CD iso and it booted form it, although then starting DOS i get error message:
C:BootLoader failed returncode 20
Any idea how to solve that?
-
kolla: NVM my question. FS seems buggy. Now all of the sudden it gives me the same error as for A4000, even tho I never changed anything. Really odd.
-
Err... remade the config, and it seems to work again although producing the same error message.
Regarding the A4000 config, it does not seem to matter if it is set to just "3.1 ROM" in the drop menu or if it is set to "3.1 ROM, CyberStorm PPC (Amiga OS 4.x)", still gives me the same Kickstart/rom error message. Not sure what rom it is referring to.
-
have you renamed the cyberstorm rom, have you got the picasso IV rom ?
-
Renamed? Iv got the picasso_iv_flash.rom (131kb)
Is this not correct?
-
from memory you need to rename whichever version of cyberstorm rom you have from cyberstorm47_48.rom to just cyberstorm.rom
-
They can be named whatever you want if you specify in the config. By default it looks for cyberstormppc.rom and PIV_FLAS.BIN.
-
Aha, I see
Well, I tried setting it in the conf although it did not work:
cpuboard_flash_file = /home/looren/AmigaOS4.1/cyberstormppc_44.71.rom
Where should it be placed for UAE to find it by default?
-
FS-UAE has typically created a directory, either ~/Documents/FS-UAE or ~/FS-UAE - at least that is what it does for me, and within there, in the Kickstarts directory. There should also be a FS-UAE/Cache/Logs/fs-uae.log.txt where you can see more details on where it looks for stuff.
-
Well, that kind of worked better. It now loads as it supposed to, and does not fail with the bootloader error, but just after where it used to fail with bootloader the screen goes green and UAE says in the bottom left corner: ERROR LOADING QEMU-UAE PLUGIN
Looking at: http://fs-uae.net/plugins
Not sure how to compile it myself, so I guess its back to Wine+WinUAE
-
You using the correc t version to match fs-use. both 64 bit ?
-
Hm, both?
Used apt-get to get the fs-uae, so everything should be correct?
-
Sorry only working through the problemsI had with the mac version and seeing if its the same issues for you :)
plugins need to be in the documents/fs-uae/pugins folder
-
Okay,
I created Plugins/ and tried putting the qemu-uae.so file into the dir, now I instead get error:
NOTIFY_USR MSG #22
-
qemu-uae.so is for SteamOS
Although not sure if this is supposed to work or what
