Tips on transferring files between A2500 and iMac
« on: December 12, 2002, 11:48:17 AM »
I'd love to transfer my old files and programs to my iMac for use with MacUAE.  Aside from using a PC zip disk to sneakernet them over, are there any other viable methods I could look into?  Any web site out there that offers tips? Or do you folks have all the answers I need? ;)

If you don't mind investing some money, you could get an X-Surf Zorro II ethernet card, and get a little network going. With Samba, you could get your Amiga drives to appear as network drives on your Mac and vice versa. You never know, you might end up using your Amiga for some things (its always handy to have another machine on the network).

Thanks for the suggestions.  Ethernet would be the way to go.  The problem is that I can find sites recommending the X-Surf, and even pictures of it, but nothing so far offering it for sale.  Even eBay comes up with nothing,  both current and completed..  Where do you suggest I pick this up?  And how much will I be investing?

Place a wanted ad and keep an eye on the "for sales" on http://amibench.org/.

Im sure you'll be able to find a used Ariadne II or similar NC floating around somewhere. Good luck, and report back on how it went when you get it up and running! :-)
Cheers,

Well, here is a link to where you can buy new X-Surfs:

Power Computing

Be warned that they cost a lot new (£80, about 20x the cost of the equivalent PCI card...), so your best bet might be to keep an eye out for a Zorro II network card second hand. Also, if you got a Highway USB card, I think there is an ethernet add-on module for it, and you'd get the bonus of a couple of USB ports on your amiga.
