A Conversation with Peddle, Herd, Ellsworth
« on: August 29, 2010, 09:06:05 PM »
While we await the posting of another batch of CommVEx 2010 videos, here's part 1 of a video from CommVEx 2009.  CBM engineer Chuck Peddle, CBM engineer Bil Herd, and engineer Jeri Ellsworth video-conferenced into CommVEx and had discussion of the early days at Commodore Business Machines. Not to be confused with an earlier Chuck Peddle interview from the Vintage Computer Festival East, this new talk sheds more light on Peddle, Jack Tramiel, and the PET and VIC-20 computers.

To see the one-hour video, go to

Parts 2 and 3 will be uploaded in the future.

          Sincerely,

Great vid, entertaining watching the technical difficulties in setting up, and interesting details from all, thanks RobertB.

Thanks for the words of encouragement.  I'll let Chuck, Bil, and Jeri know.

Speaking of technical difficulties, because of the relatively slow wi-fi connection into the CommVEx room, the original video had even more video and audio drop-outs, with the picture being hard to see at times and the audio being hard to understand.  I tried to videotape off the screen at CommVEx, but the results were not acceptable.

Jeri had a more pristine version of the broadcast (because she was controlling it) copied in her NewTek TriCaster.  However, it was an effort to get the video files out of the TriCaster, i.e., they were so huge!  After several efforts, we figured out a medium in which I could transport those files to my video-editing set-up.  Even then, my computer and software were choking on the gigantic files.  Finally, I figured out a workaround in which I could get the files edited.  After editing, I compressed and recompressed them until each was under 1 gig each for uploading.  I sent part 1 of the video (and in the future, part 2 and part 3) to somebody else who has really fast uploading (something which I don't have).  Whew!  Hours... days of work!

I'm still waiting for BIOS to post them.  I sent them to him three days ago.
