AGA Games questions
« on: February 14, 2010, 05:18:53 AM »
Where is the best place to pick up AGA games?  Generally speaking do they or do they not work with a 68040? 060?  (I currently own zero AGA games!)

All of them should. You might need to turn off burst on the CPU.
Check abandonware sites, I don't think anyplace sells them other ebay.

Hi orb85750:
Can't say for certain about '040/'060 comp. with AGA games... by the time I had an '040, I was already using WHDLoad.... But, if a game runs under AGA, that should be at least an '020. If you have trouble just disable and burst/caches not present on an '020....  For an '060.... hmmm, copyback, superscalar, branch cache.

I still recommend WHDLoad.....

I don't think you're going to find a special vendor of AGA games. Just keep an eye out for Amiga games, AGA versions in particular. Softhut probably has a fair selection. Maybe these guys, too.

All Amiga software works on the 040 and 060 unless the programmer has intentionally, rudely, used illegal coding techniques to force the game to not work on 040 and 060.

I have played AGA games that did not immediately work on my 040.  So I disabled the CPU caches (this makes the CPU much much slooooower) then the game worked.

Properly programmed games such as Total Chaos AGA work on any CPU and any amount of cache with any AmigaOS >=3.0 and in fact work better on the 040 and 060 due to the extra cache and speed of those chips.
