Black is Black, we don't want any SOPA back!
« on: January 17, 2012, 05:34:20 AM »
DiscreetFX will go completely black for 24 hours on Wednesday 01/19/12 in protest of the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA). Don't worry Amiga.org will not be black or blue. It will stay as colorful as can be.

Best regards

In FRANCE, we have "HADOPI" and soon "LOOPSI 2"!!!!
- HADOPI: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HADOPI_law
- LOOPSI 2: orientation law and planning for the performance of internal security: the police can see everything you do on the Internet with spyware.

For HADOPI: findings of serious leaks of information, very large budget, effective criticism.

These two things go against human rights and communication rights.

Doesn't mean that Congress can't bring it back. The more people that protest it, and the more press it gets, the more aware people will be should Congress try this again.

Remember, the opposite of Pro is Con. So, the opposite of Progress is...

They are just going to rebadge it and try and make it fly under the radar.

The guys pushing for this, namely the copyright vultures seem to be fully intent on ignoring the indisputable fact that SOPA/PIPA would turn DNS and DNSSEC on its' ass.  I fully expect them to try and fly a new proposition under the wire.  SOPA might have got poo poo'ed, but they won't give up on the idea of it by any stretch, so keep yourselves informed!

Our Communications Minister,Senator Conroy, wanted to build a chinese style great internet wall around Australia.  The fact that it a) would slow internet access to a crawl and b) have a secret list of sites, didn't phase him.  Fortunately an election left Labor hanging by a thread and not able to inflict much damage on anything....

This has nothing to do with the US saving the world. This is media conglomerates trying to throw their weight around to protect their wallets. Their preferred method of choice for doing this? Get members of Congress, whom they give money to for (re)election, to pass restrictive laws that befit only the conglomerates.

And in the wake of that, the censoring of the internet, the loss of jobs and a detriment to the already weak economies all over the world. If you want to blame someone, don't blame the US as a whole. Blame the big media companies trying to push this through the US Congress.

Silicon Valley has in recent years become a big force in politics. The Jedi Knights to the Sith Lords of the movie studios and record labels. Their efforts like the blackouts are getting people's attention and getting them to contact their reps in Congress to to get it stopped.

Congress may for the most part be busted up, but it isn't totally broke. Yet..... ;)
