Hello everybody!
I don't know how many times this has been already discussed, but... I need your help!
I hope that someone who already stumbled over this can provide some useful info.
The story in short: yesterday I got my A1-G4 XE.
Hardware installation went perfectly OK, everything gets detected and used correctly - all but the ATi RADEON 9000.
I received the Debian distro and installed it following the Quickstart Guide (the few and little flaws in it caused no problem).
Everything worked perfectly.
Only that... the X server refuses to start!
I reconfigured xserver-xfree86 several times, but I did not manage to make it use the card properly.
I tried with the "ati" and "radeon" drivers, which cause the following messages when trying to start X:
- ati driver
(WW) PCI/APG can't find Mach64
(EE) no device found
[the first line may be slightly different... just off the top of my head]
- radeon driver
(WW) Cannot open APM
(WW) RADEON: No match in Device Section for instance
(BusID PCI:1:0:1) found
(EE) No device found
[the second is absolutely false given that I set it to PCI1:0:0]
I did read that only XFree86 4.3 handles RADEON cards properly, but I also read that the A1 and the provided distro should support it to some extent.
Any idea?
Thanks in advance!
