I thought the game Blood Money had a really cool intro.
It was a 2 disk game but the whole 1st disk was the intro.  The intro had a lot of animated digitized asteroids as well as a lot of sampled sounds.

No one has mentioned Settlers yet !!!

Both the intro graphics and music were good, and the in-game sound effects were also spot-on :)

I miss that game... :(

Ah yes, Birds of Prey. Smashing Topgun-esque intro. After the Razor 1911 intro that is. Yarh!.

What about SWOS?

I used to love that song in the intro!

"You're a goal scoring, superstar hero....  :-D

Cannon Fodder was superb as well.

Another World, mind blowing animation back in the day.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who got a shiver down the spine when listening to the Magnetic Fields intro.

Incidentally, issue 3 of Retro Gamer has a load of gremlin games on the disc, including Lotus 1, 2 & 3, and Supercars 1 and 2 (Supercars 1 is for the Atari emulator though, all the rest work in Winuae, believe me I've tried them all!:-)) So you can listen to the intros all over again!!!

Incidentally 2: Issue four of Retro Gamer is out on May 27th!!

I'm such a retro geek!

No ones mentioned Agony yet --- possibly the best music intro on the Amiga.

UNREAL!
Walker (oops, it is Psygno... ;-) )

I used to love the intro music at the beggining of MAgnetic Fields games (i.e lotus etc), it used to come on all loud and stuff and send shivers down my spine

That music was shamelessly stolen from the 1989 movie version of Henry V.  It occurs to me that copyright laws regarding sound clips were far, far more lax in those days.  :-)

I spent a long time tracking that music down, I loved its emotion too (spine shivers!).  Its actually a classical piece by Richard Wagner called "Siegfrieds Funeral March" (Gotterdamerung) Twilight of the Gods.

3. Shadow of the Beast
4. Shadow of the Beast

True, but the MF recording came from Henry V.  Compare the instrumentation.  :-)

PS - I thought about nominating Agony, but that game is truly awful.  I'm partial to MegaLoMania, myself.  But, nothing beats Pinball Illusions.  The intro, the music, the graphics, the physics... that game is friggin' amazing.

I always liked the intro to UGH! Not the most flashy, just fun :-)  Also the intro movie for Carmageddon1 on PC was great ...
