Installing 3.9 into WinUAE
« on: November 10, 2006, 12:56:43 AM »
I know this has been answered before, but I can't find a thread on this anywhere.

I am running WinUAE, now how do I get it to see my OS 3.9 CD so I can boot off it or install it somehow over top of 3.1?

Thankx!

You can use the CDFS that comes with 3.1 to mount the CD, then create an emergency boot floppy.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

Hum,
yeah that would be the easiest way.
0S3.9 installs directly off the cd.

Or you could copy the entire CD to  a PC Folder, and move the files by hand  once in winuae.

Do note that the files, on the CD, named aux* (located in devs & storage) will get Windows to hang while trying to copy them while being in Windows (if trying to copy them to your harddrive)... don't ask me why, or if this applies to all different versions of Windows... my Windows XP and Windows XP Pro SP2 does this to me, though. It worked nicely from within WinUAE, though...

Besides, you do NOT need any CD-Filesystem to mount under WinUAE... you can just put your CD in your CD-Drive and configure it as normal under WinUAE's configuration screen... just add it as a device and make sure that you name it correctly. It will pop up perfectly on the Workbench when you boot your WinUAE into 3.1...

Ok so I just need to select UAE SCSI and ASPI under MISC?

Or mount it as a hard drive under hard drives. I don't know why I keep forgetting how to do this, I know it's simple.

Taking that home with me to try, thank you!

P.S. These instructions look very familiar!

"AUX" is a reserved filename (well, device name to be precise) in MS-DOS... I guess XP preserves this for compatibility (!), even though it's long since been superseded. As far as I know, it's an alias for "COM1", e.g. the first legacy serial port.

Some applications seem fine dealing with such filenames, but anything going via Windows Explorer and the like will cause the hanging problem.
