You are not allowed to be sarcastic?

Constantly being sarcastic on the same topic gets so predictable; mostly beating the sarcasm and being just annoying. (All in IMHO).

"Hey, where's TMHG? Usually by this time he's reminding the whole world why it's beneficial for us to buy mac mini's instead. So how many G4 power macs can one by for the cost of one of these...

I hope he's not sick. I'm getting worried."

Since you mentioned it...
I think you could buy 5 or 6 power pc macs for the price of the least expensive os4 board...  Or at least 2 or 3 really decent spec ones.

And remember, the benchmarks prove not only are those old power pc macs faster than any SAM board, they are faster than the x1000 which costs 3,000$+

I love amiga, I wish all flavors the best but talk about shooting yourself in the foot... Its ridiculous. People are allowed to be sarcastic when the prices are so ridiculous for 10+ year old hardware speeds.

It's a hobby - no one is paying vast amounts of money to beef up legacy systems, or for pricey NG OS4 PPC boards, or for expensive OS licenses for old Mac PPC hardware for any reason other than the love of the platform.

It's about fun, start taking it too seriously you realize it's just a big race towards obsolescence.  We buy and use what we use cause it's fun, and in a world where 3ghz commodity PC's can be had for $400 at a Best Buy, you gotta pay to play if you want to be different.

Pick your poison and enjoy it I figure.

Benchmarks on these systems mean absolutely nothing because no one in their right minds would use these systems for intensive tasks like rendering or encoding when you have a far faster PC available.  I'm not going to run Blender on MOS or OS4 hardware for production stuff just because I can, I'll bring out the big guns.  Benchmarks on the Amiga platform is a pecker measuring contest and nothing more :)

So let's make it a little less gimp, and say 200'ish.

How much did the Pegasos machines go for back in the day ?

I'm not sure about the relevance of benchmarking Amiga systems. The reason is that benchmarks don't take into account nostaglia and perception. These are impossible to measure using numbers so you can use all the benchmarks you like it doesn't mean much at the end of the day. Sure my macmini is cheaper, higher quality (debatable) and has higher performance when compared to the Sams but an Apple is still an Apple. All these little Amiga benchmarks prove is that i am not a robot but in fact a human being with emotions.

I love my Morphos but can't stand my mini because it's an Apple. Any ideas how to benchmark that? Good luck.

When Pegasos 2 G4 was new it was sold at 499e (motherboard only) so it was not cheap. This Sam440ep is cheaper but also lot slower. Relatively pricing is ok.

How is some Acube or A-eon hardware more nostalgic than Apple? To be honest I dont see difference. If you want nostalgia go buy real Commodore Amiga 500.

I know it is difficult to let old trademark go... ten years I bought Amiga gear (games, magazines, software, hardware...) to support Amiga companies and so on and finally I had to let it go. All that money wasted on CU Amiga or Amiga Format, poor quality Amiga games and what not. The Amiga is not coming back.

Remember that those 499Euro included VAT and free access to the OS (MorphOS1.4x in that case) while none of it is included in the SAMs being offered.

Depending on exchange rates then and now these SAMs might actually turn out a little more expensive then a Peg2 for some folks.
1. Make an announcment.
2. Wait a while.
3. Check if it can actually be done.
4. Wait for someone else to do it.
5. Start working on it while giving out hillarious progress-reports.
6. Deny that you have ever announced it
7. Blame someone else

Was Pegasos 2 G3 600MHz sold at 299 or 399 EUR?

I didn't say it was. But there is a difference. Apple takes away any nostaglia that's there but the Sams don't. Everytime i use my Macmini i am constantly reminded it is an Apple and i don't think the Sams would do this.

Also i said perception and not just nostaglia. These two emotions are very different.

All that money wasted on CU Amiga or Amiga Format, poor quality Amiga games and what not. The Amiga is not coming back.

Simply put they were designed and made by Amiga users for Amiga users.
I still have my original A500 & A1200 and they unfortunately have been neglected ever since I got my old Samflex back in 2009.

You say supporting Amiga companies is a waste of time and I say it gives me great joy to know that my favourite OS is still alive today and being actively developed. When I use my X1000 and AspireOS on my netbook I get this feeling of resilient pride and my wife & friends tell me I always have a mischievous smirk on my face :-)

You say 'wasted money' but I say 'priceless';)
