pOS anyone?
« on: January 07, 2003, 08:42:59 AM »
Whatever happend to ProDAD's pOS? The only real source of information I could find was here. Also, it seems that ProDAD no longer support the Amiga.

I am suprised that no other group (AmigaOS, AROS, MorphOS) picked up where they left off, as it seems that pOS had some good ideas.

pOS is dead. AROS, MorphOS and Amiga Inc all have sourcecode bases that are far more mature than pOS would be.

Basically, forget about it. If they hadn't believed the official line on a new AmigaOS in 1998 and given up, who knows? Maybe we'd all be using PIOS Twos...

Damn it, now I remember. I had seen an amiga running pOS sometime ago, and was wondering what the hell it was.

If *anyone* has any info on how I can get this, please let me know.
Anyway is the only way

The pOS prerelease CD can still be had from several Amiga dealers it seems. Try googling "pos cd amiga", spotted some dealer in Japan who still had it listed. Amigis.nl also has it listed.

I remember being very interested in this back then. The icons are dithered in that screenshot because from the start pOS was designed to run in 24bit (icons were thus stored in 24bit rather that using pens).

Back then this was encouraging news, but now that we have Morphos and maybe one day a new AmigaOS I think it's just an irrelevancy.
