New to OS 3.9 ... Questions :)
« on: December 31, 2004, 04:46:36 PM »
Hi there,

I am thinking of upgrading my A1200 with 3.1 Rom chips with Cold Fusion processor/pci slot combo + Elbox case. I will also use 4xEIDE'99 with Allegro CDFS for Atapi.

1. What is the maximum partition size I can get with the above setup?

2. Are .ttf font format handled by OS 3.9?

3. I would need to buy some amiga software, mainly the following, which do you suggest, and where to get them from:

- IRC
- Email
- Graphics (something like Photoshop)
- Web Browser
- Messenger (hey maybe theres one after all)

Thanks in advance for help!

1. With AmigaOS 3.9 you can partition very large except for the boot partition which must be under 2 Gigs.  I'd recommend smaller than 200 MB for the boot partition simply because AmigaOS doesn't need that much space for the OS.

2. In order to get TrueType fonts to work under AOS3.x you need either Freedom
or ttf.library and set up according to the instructions that come with the libraries.  (Some fonts work better with one library than the other so you might want to download both.)

3.  For IRC try AmIRC (Note that this may require MUI installed to work properly.  For EMail try YAM.  For graphics you'll need a commercial software package like Art Department Professional.  For a web browser try AWeb and for a messenger try JabberWocky.

IBrowse is much more advanced and currently supported.  Try it over AWeb.  JabberWocky is good. It will let you get into all the messengers through gateways.

Actually the AWeb link in my post is to the latest experimental beta version of AWeb which is newer than IBrouwse.  All it's missing that IBrowse has is tabbed browsing.

Interesting... I'll have to give it a try when I get the rest of my Amiga...

Is that still freeware?

Does it support CSS?

Besides not having tab-browsing, is there anything else that it doesnt have?  Or that it does have or is better?

Is IBrowse still the official browser of OS4?

Thanks,
