OS4 Install
« on: June 20, 2005, 03:44:46 PM »
I have finally managed to update my U-Boot just the other week.

I have followed the OS4 installation guide found on the website.

Below is section 3:

Insert the AmigaOS4.0 Developer pre-release CD in your CDROM drive. At the UBoot "]" prompt type:

ide reset
setenv boot1 cdrom
boota

You will notice the AmigaOS4.0 kernel modules will begin loading from the Developer pre-release CD.
It should look like this:-

Once the kernel (kickstart) has loaded, your screen will go blank and your monitor may go onto standby.
The CD drive is still being accessed at this point, after about one minute you will be presented with a welcome message on a White background.

It shows that the kickstart is loading, but when it comes to section 4, my screen goes blank, then comes back on with what looks like the workbench screen but it all fuzzy and difficult to make out - I should have the Welcom to OS4 requester but don't.

HELP!!! :-?

What version of the Prerelease are you running? The original, or Update #1?

Are you using a Radeon?

Are you using the March 2005 UBoot?

I'm using the original pre-release of OS4.

Yes I'm using a Radeon.

And no I'm using the UBoot update that came with the pre-release.

I have no clues what to do.

Which Radeon card are you using?

The problem might be with your monitor, which can't sync with the (I believe) 640x480 screen. Try to boot the CD with a different monitor plugged in.

Unsure as to which Radeon card is being used.

But have just tried it on another monitor and still it looks like a fuzzy version of the Workbench desktop.

No sign of the Welcome message on a white background, not even a fuzzy version of it.

Please, any other ideas?

I mean I have only just been able to update UBoot after nearly a year of having my AmigaOne.

There were a couple of people that had trouble with their radeons in the beginning, the display had some kind of heatwaves all over the screen which made it nearly impossible to see things, you might find more info on their experience and solutions over at amigaworld.net but if you have an additional graphics card you might have a quicker solution with that one ?

Don't have any other graphics card, is there another way to correct this heatwave effect :-?

I am losing patience and may just go back to using a PEECEE.

I'd rather not have to take such drastic action, but what the heck.

The Radeon "heat-wave" problem is fixed in a later version of the monitor driver IIRC. Try installing (if you can see!) a later update to OS4 and it should be eliminated...
