Title: Getting files onto disks for Amiga 1000
Post by: SportBikePilot on January 30, 2020, 06:14:37 AM
Just got my Amiga 1000 (Thanks Brian!) so I am back in the Amiga community, with the original mac daddy Amiga.

I have Workbench 1.3 running without issue, but I am in need of getting a terminal emulator on the computer so I can get a WiModem232 and get back on the BBS thing.

Is there a means to create Amiga disk images on a PC? Seems like that's not an option. Does Ncomm work on the Amiga 1000? How can I get a copy of it onto the machine?

Sorry for the simple questions, but before today, my last use of an Amiga was 25 years ago, and you could walk into the local Amiga dealer and get what you needed.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Best,

Chris

Probably need some more info on your Machine. On a vanilla single Disk A1000 this is a challenge. You can format a 720k floppy on a PC copy the files you need onto that and then read it on the Amiga using the MSDos Disk Device. But to get that device On 1.3 you will need a way to move files. Vicious circle. Best option is to get a Mate with a networked Amiga with HD and a working FDD to create the Ncomm Disk for you.

It is a vanilla A1000 with an additional external disk drive, so I have two drives. Unfortunately I know no other Amiga users in the area, I'm very new to this, again, after having been out of it for 25 years.

A lot of Amigans still use Amiga Explorer. This is just ONE way to transfer files. There are a few other solutions out there too.

Transfer files from a PC to an AMIGA

VERY interesting information. I have the equipment needed to make this happen, so I'll give it a whack this afternoon after work.

I have a cable that was included with the machine marked "Amiga 1000 Serial Cable", I'd assume this will interface with the PC via null modem without any issues. I'm very familiar with the null modem process for other equipment I work with, so the learning curve should be minimal.

My A1000 only has 512k RAM, but hopefully that won't be an issue. In the past it never has been with anything I've done with the machine.

Thank you very much for sharing this with me!

This "ready to go" solution is also very popular! And inexpensive! Comes with the software to just "git 'er done".  ;)

I bought a production device called SuperCard Pro.  It lets me write ADF's to 3.5 floppies using my PC and a USB cable and it workes perfectly.

If your in the US and need me to copy ADF's to floppies send me emails we can work something out.

I use Amiga Explorer and it really is a great piece of software
Little finicky getting it to work at first but once you figure it out it is indispenable

There's a program here that can be typed into AmigaBasic and you'll need a serial cable to link PC and Amiga.
