OS3.9/hard drive limitations
« on: May 24, 2003, 06:27:52 PM »
What are the restrictions that must be observed under OS3.9? Does the boot partition have to be under a specific size in OS3.9?

And what about partition size limitation?

I just installed an 80gb ide drive on a Buddha IDE controller, and set each of the partitions to ~8gb size.

OS3.9 installs a patch to scsi.device (NSDPatch) and reboots. Therefore at the time of first boot the old 3.1 HD size limitations are there, and if the boot partition is above 4GB, it won't be detected. Keep your boot partition below this size - 512MB is enough for anyone.

The first boot partition must be less than 2GB and then if you use OS3.9 you can have subsequent partitions as big as you want (well over 1000GB if I recall from H&P's docs)

Altough we did have a problem recently trying to install a 250GB HDD but Elbox are helping us to resolve that.

BTW: an 80GB HD will work perfectly on the Amiga- I have one and it installed without problems.
