Title: Enough is enough
Post by: hooligan on August 04, 2012, 02:20:30 AM
Turning the site off was last drop for me. As I cant find how to delete my user account, can any of the mods do it please.

Thanks for all the fish.

Well thats a bugger. Is it just the events of the last few days?

Yea, it was pretty silly to turn off the site in some kind of protest against that one thing....

Either way, definitely lost some interest and motivation in A.org.

Wait, the site was off? When was this? In response to what?

Not sure how long it was off for but it was off a few hours "in protest" Earlier today.

Pretty lame to take this out on the rest of the community!

I'll admit what I did was wrong. We all mistakes and I do not mind admitting mine. The site was down 60 minutes tops before some sense was talked into me. I am sorry if this upset anyone.

It was to do with this http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=62262

I wasn't aware anything had been taken offline till I read about it on another forum. As I already stated in the thread that started this crap storm I don't think airing your dirty laundry in public is the best way to go with something like this. And neither is taking a site down in protest a way of resolving it either. I mean it's of no consequence to the accused party what happens to a website.

Edit--

If you let blind rage take over then stupid things happen. Personally I don't feel offended in any way over the site going down. But I will say it was a silly move.

Considering how deleting a user ****s up vbulletin I won't be requesting deletion of my account.

This is however enough to make me consider a.org unworthy of my time. Now, if things should change I might consider posting again. Until then, so long, and thanks for all the fish.

Just a quick comment: I read what's posted on this site almost daily. I didn't read the Pyromania/Deron post until I found the site offline with the protest message. I mainly read this site for the really knowlegable posters like Piru and Thomas who confer their wisdom in all things Amiga and beyond. I ignore the "drama" posts for the most part--unless it's about Doomy who is almost like a comic book character because he's so bad, he's entertaining.

I'm not going to delete my account but I don't really like this.

The day I see Piru not trashing every single AmigaOS4.x thread is the day I quit too :insane::p

Oh for crying out loud, really, Transition? People call you out for dragging Pyromania's personal drama into the community-news section, so you have a site-wide sulk?

I'm not quitting, but this is sure not improving my opinion any. Sheez, first the CUSA coddling for pageviews, now this...

Makes me glad I started hanging out at EAB. Maybe I'll check into AWN while I'm at it...

Didn't upset me at all, and if he's a good friend of yours, your reaction is understandable.

You know, I think the only reason I stop by Amiga.org is to see what the drama queens will do next...  Users, Owners, Admins, Mods, the list just goes on and on.  Shutting the site down and pouting was just classic.  I swear I could imagine the poor slob pouting in his parent's basement with a tub of ice-cream watching Dr. Who reruns.

Truly an endless source of astonishment...

Hi,

You all leavin

You know there was a bad storm last night, maybe the site just went down because of an electrical storm.

You know if you all leave, how can I troll the site, it won't be any fun with you all gone. No looney rantin and ravin. No Piru, don't know much about transition, he was just there, didn't say or do much, actually no fun at all, guess I won't miss him, so you can leave, go ahead now run on home like the trouble maker you are. We won't miss you, just pack it up and leave.

Just shut down this Mac site anyhow. Maybe if you all leave it might turn back into an Amiga site. Won't miss any of you Mac loonies anyway. Shoot, I have had more fun trolling the news boards anyway.

Goodbye you all, don't let the board hit you in the butt on the way out. Didn't need you all anyway.

Good ridance to looney company

So, he makes a bad choice based on concern for a friend.
It gets corrected relatively quickly.
He publically admits it was a mistake and apologizes.

And for that, you consider the site "unworthy" of your time?

Good to know about you.

IMHO, he's human.
Thanx for the apology.
I still support you and hope for the best from this crazy old website.

We all make mistakes especially when emotions gets the best of us.

All I can ask for, is that personal attacks and this red/blue bashing stops.

@Transition

Apology accepted.

However, inconsiderate actions like these drive longtimers away. Without them, a tremendous deal of input will be missing. Please remember that running this forum means you're carrying responsibility for the community as well. Thanks.

Totally agree, it was an emotional decision and remember we don't know how much money is involved here, we could be talking significant sums of money here so the kneejerk reaction is understandable.

It's a forum, take it or leave it. I personally don't post much simply because the world of Amiga in general is changing to something I don't like much that is all.

Some people on this forum think far too much of themselves.

Where can I read details about what happened? What I know up to now is that someone paid some other to develop something related to a new version of Alladin. And the developer disappeared with the money, which was paid upfront.

They deleted the thread. I kind of wanted to see if the guy who ran off with
their money would explain his side.  I'm pretty sure if someone were calling
me a thief on any forum I'd log in and set them straight.... Guess this guy
was a crook.

As the boing ball turns has been kinda quiet lately till this.

If someone ripped me off like that, I'd do more than post about it on a message forum. And why the hell did this developer guy not defend himself unless he was a dirtball and he knew it?

What's his track record like as a dev
is he well know ?
Something may have happened to him
for example I have unexpectedly been rushed
into hospital two time's in the last 2 years
with Pneumonia and both time's I was
in for a few weeks and did not have internet access
and my phone did not work in there

If I were him, and I were accused publically in this way, I wouldn't reply to it either. A public forum is never the right place for this sort of thing, it should be done in private.
I'm sure his lawyers would advise him of exactly the same thing, too.....
Title: Re: Enough is enough
Post by: hbarcellos on August 05, 2012, 01:51:54 AM
Well, if they both live in the same country, the easiest thing to do would be to call a lawyer.
I would assume he would have, at least, some e-mails about their agreement.

That, for sure, would be way more effective than any other *weird* action made by his friends. Probably the other guy would be so scared that would release the SW as open source as part of the agreement.

Thank you for this surprise gift Transition! I'm still kind of shell shocked, this news caught me by complete surprise. I know owning the site stressed you sometimes and I'm sure everyone appreciated you saving it in 2009. I will work hard to make you and Amiga.org members proud.

Sounds good to me. I like this site and would like to see it go on into the future but please keep the drama in check and keep it entertaining. The serious coders and hardware junkies--I'm one of the latter--are moving to EAB in droves. I want to read and post about Amigas and things about Amigas, not interpersonal drama between Amigans.
