Not sure what this threads about... but as it's 5:22am and I am bored and very sleepy I thought I'd just stick me big nose in here before going to bed... ;)

Near as I can tell it's a hypothetical scenario created so as to be able to bitch about Apple. The iBox, from a brief browse, appears to have been joked about online for the last 3 or so years, but isnt an actual product (apart from an app).
Im not an Apple fan as such, but sheesh, some people appear to have too much free time :)

Near as I can tell this is where I write something under the guise of being innocuous, but really its a pot shot at another persons/peoples choice of Amiga based systems. Unfortunately only I cant see how transparent and petty it makes me look.

Apple "seize" 1.6% of a market, fanboys proclaim VICTOLY, soccer moms and mallwalker dads buy one, hipsters and failure to launch manchildren queue up for them on release date, MS, Sony and Nintendo barely notice, world keeps turning.

That's how Apple products work these days, right?

Like this thing?

Yeah, they're bringing gaming to the Apple TV, apparently APIs have been discovered in the latest Apple TV builds that mention gaming.

Of course this is probably a way off at the moment, or awaiting a revision of the Apple TV to a more powerful CPU and GPU than the current Apple A4 chip. Then again, I bet lots of people would be happy just to play that tedium-fest Angry Birds on their TV.

Nope.

Nowadays with a new product (since the iPod, including the iPhone and iPad) Apple sieze a vast chunk of the market area it targets (70%+ for iPod and iPad so far, and the iPhone isn't doing too bad either even with Android's success). And they consistently get excellent ratings for their support. And their customers are usually very happy with what they have bought because it works for them, it's reliable, the UI is intuitive, the apps are solid, and there's very little faffing around.

As someone with an iOS game on the AppStore, I have to say I welcome gaming coming to the appleTV (which is basically an iPod Touch with a TV out socket).

You guys can piss on Apple, but if I wanted to sell a game for Nintendo/Sony/M$/etc that would be totally no go. But Apple has allowed me to develop a game and sell it. You could all do it too (read my blog).

I don't play games anywhere else than on my iPhone now :)

I do dev for iPhone / iPodTouch and iPad too.

Obviously a great number of people here don't know about what's going on in the gaming world.

Apple IS the number one mobile platform right now, ahead of android, Sony and ?Nintendo. Even nintendo had to tell it here.

Just one exemple of how far ahead apple is now (ahead of xbox, ps3..): Report by 2D boy. There best release was on the iPad (not available on iPhone / iPod touch).

I don't mind if i release my game for a microsoft, sony, nintendo or CommodoreUSA ;-) devices. But apple was and IS the only one to allow me to have fun coding small games and release it for their online store. It's still impossible for me to release something on Nintendo DS, PSP... PS3, XBOX (indy xbox store is a joke, no one buy anything on it) And please don't talk about GP2X, pandora or anything else, there is no market for this.

And on top of it all, games (both playing and making) on an iphone remember me of my Amiga games, Fast to load, fast to catch game play, small gaming sessions and not mandatory hours of gameplay... and it seems that a lot of people want this kind of games...

Please check your numbers. Apple for sure is not perfect, no one needs to love them, but they achieved fantastic things with iOS platform (for me allowing to sell my games to a install base more important than Nintendo DS + PSP, like i was free to do it on the Amiga back in the 80s).

I have to second everything LtPlay49 has said. Apple have given us a platform not seen since te Amiga/Atari days!

One and Two man coding teams can make a quick, fun, casual game and sell it to a market over 100million strong... This is basically a dream for me and quite a few others on this site (that I know of) who haven't enjoyed coding since the Amiga days!

-Edit- thanks LtPlay49! I hope to push out a few updates over the next few months, first I need to figure out xCode4
