I have been using ver 3.0 but heard that the latest version was 3.01A. The difference between 3.01 and 3.01A is the AD516-handler file. The newer handler seems to clear up minor startup problems when using multiple AD516 cards ( I have 3 cards in my A2000). I have check Aminet and a bunch of sites for this version and was curious if anyone knew about this discrepancy.

I see 300a, 300b and 301 listed here
http://amiga.resource.cx/exp/ad516
but unfortunately do not see a 301 version.
I picked up an AD516 a couple of months ago but haven't installed it yet so if there is newer software available and you find it, please post.

Will do and thanks for replying

Seems like I only have 3.01 too, just checked my versions

I am trying to contact one of the org software programmer for more info (Anthony Wood) ....will let you know if I can confirm this final update. Thanks for checking

still no luck...tried another contact but only crickets !

I'd been trying to find this page (http://web.archive.org/web/20040204150156/http://emrl.com/amiga/sunrize/index.html) for you and finally came across it again today. I *think* this is where I downloaded Studio 16 3.01 many years ago, although the links are long dead now. I thought it might have had 3.01A, but there are still a few interesting things:
1. The page suggests that 3.01 is the one with the multi-card bugfix.
2. The FAQ linked from that page says 3.01A is the one with the multi-card bugfix.
So, the first page could simply be wrong, but I suppose another possibility is that 3.01A was actually a sneaky sort of "second release" of 3.01 immediately after the first but none of the internal version numbers were changed. In other words, maybe the 3.01 circulating now is 3.01A but not labeled as such? (Incidentally, the disks I think I made from that site match the versions that can be found today.)
-
Thanks Matt. I initially thought there was a 3.01 version as well, based on what I read on http://www.youngmonkey.ca site
I knew a little about these guys when I lived in Montreal before moving down to Boston

3 - Miscellaneous Questions
3.1 - What is the latest version of Studio 16 ?
The latest version is 3.01A. The difference between 3.01 and 3.01A
is the AD516-handler file. On the author's system, the newer
handler seemed to clear up minor startup problems when using
multiple AD516 cards.

I found an old hard drive backup that contained s163011.dms and s163012.dms from the Wayback Machine site in my previous post. I can confirm that they're the same v3.01 disks that are now available here (http://amiga.resource.cx/exp/ad516).
Based on an older version (http://web.archive.org/web/19990421113025/http://www.emrl.com/amiga/sunrize.html) of the site in the Wayback Machine, it seems like the site author intended to offer 3.01a for download. Unfortunately, the links on that version of the page point nowhere so we don't know if that download was ever functional.
The author of the site and the author of the FAQ (the FAQ version on youngmonkey.ca is an older one) are the same person and it seems like he's pretty knowledgeable. It looks like it was always his intention was to offer the last version available, and his 3.01 is labeled as such, even though it's not labeled 3.01a. But it still doesn't definitively answer whether 3.01 and 3.01a are the same thing...

and the mystery continues !

Just out of curiosity, you’ve said you’re using multiple AD516s... are you running into any issues? Or are you just looking to get what is presumably the most stable version?
-
Correct Matt. I am running 3 SunRize cards in my A2000 and have not run into any major issues. I will be "pushing" performance next month with a song I am working on. I am curious to see how the cards/tracks will perform under stress with my 68060 processor - with the 3 cards maxed out ....but you are correct, was just looking for the last version update.
-
Good to hear things are stable so far. I hope the stress test goes well! I think your setup is ideally suited for such a test.
BTW, you might also be interested in archives of the old Studio 16 mailing list (http://aminet.net/search?query=studio+16+mailinglist).

I ran 2 cards using 3.01 for many years and never had an issue.
However that was on a zorroIII 3K/040 with the most up-to-date ramsey and buster chips instead of a 2000.
Are you also using bars&pipes? AD516 and B&P was always my favorite combination. (nevermind, just saw your BP/MOTU posting)
Cool to see youngmonkey page is still around, that takes me way back.
While I was never fortunate enough to contact Mr. Wood going as far back as the late 90's, Ben Fuller was a much more social guy.
Information he shared with the community even lead to the first AHI driver for the sunrize cards. (Sadly he's no longer with us)

Agree, from what I heard, he seemed like a talented and social person. I am in contact with the Developer with B&P and everything is stable using this combo. Thanks for your bkg info
