Sim City 512kB
« on: August 15, 2011, 09:40:15 PM »
Was there ever a Sim City 1MB version?  If so, what is the difference?  I wonder if it is the CDTV version that would be considered the 1MB version.

I actually spend a couple of hours playing Sim City 512kB today.

From WikipediA:

V.1.0 – NA 1989
Alongside SimCity for the Macintosh, this was the first and original version of SimCity. It ran on any Amiga with at least 512 kilobytes of memory, and was distributed on a single floppy disk.

V.2.0
This version has been enhanced with the ability to switch tile sets. A tile set consists of all the images the game uses to draw the city, and by changing the tile set one can give the city a different look and feel.
Because of this new functionality, SimCity 2 requires at least 1MB of memory, twice that of the original version.

The source code to SimCity was freely released back in 2008.  Would SimCity 512kB for the Amiga qualify as being freely released and allowed to obtain by downloading it?

You can also run CDTV Sim City on a regular Amiga as well.  I remember seeing how much better the graphics were for the CDTV version and promptly copied that version over to my HD so play.

Just a thought...

Cheers!
