WHDLoad messed up
« on: February 24, 2018, 04:08:50 AM »
I installed WHDLoad successfully a few weeks ago.  I was on the web site and downloaded what I thought was a newer version (the .lzx version).  Now when I start a game it just says: C starting... (in title bar) and shows a text file (like a .readme).

I have tried to uninstall it the best I can and re-install the first version I installed.  It keeps doing the same thing.  How do I wipe it out completely and get it working again?

Delete C:WHDLoad and the startup scripts in S:. Unless you have something really funky with your system it's not that complicated an install.

Then download the user_small archive from the website, that's all you need. :)

Yeah, simple of an install as can be.  But something is stuck.  Every game I launch, RunInUAE says "launching C" not the game, then shows the readme file.

I have searched the entire drive and deleted every file I can find.  Looked in User-Startup and such.  Is there a DefIcons filetype made?

What does the tooltypes for the game icons say?  Should be "C:WHDLoad".

Did you install something like the developer version?

If you extract the contents of the main "WHDLoad_usr_small.lha" file (the one you should have installed), either on your Amiga or on a PC (using something like WinRAR), you'll see it's literally only the following files:

S:WHDLoad-Startup
S:WHDLoad-Cleanup
S:WHDLoad.prefs
Docs - various documentation files in different languages
C:WHDLoadCD32
C:WHDLoad
C:RawDIC
C:Patcher
C:DIC
and some icons (.info files) for each of the above three drawers

Deleting all of those items will completely remove the program from your system.  Unless you installed some incorrect version or your system is really messed up in other ways.  YMMV.  Did it work correctly before you installed whatever it was you installed most recently?  Good luck!

Nope, just User archive.  It worked fine until I installed, what I thought was a newer version, the User .lzx version from the site.  Now it makes the floppy drive noise then shows the text file.

I have deleted all of those and more with a #?whdload#? search.  Still same issue.

Frustrating.  It is so straight forward but not working.  I will walk away from it for a few days and try again.

Thanks.

That's the wrong version.  All you need is WHDLoad_usr_small.lha.  I'm not in front of my Amiga right now (and surprisingly, WinRAR can't open .lzx files), so I don't know what it contains.   In any case, judging by the file size it's a lot more than you need.

You didn't answer the question about if you view the game icon info - is the default tool correctly set as C:WHDLoad?

Hi,
I do not know where you updated WHDLoad, but should not launch the update from your OS4 partition, but rather from the emulated environment.
Means there is a special WHDLoad-redirection which has ben set up by RunInUAE in

[name_of_your_os4.x_system_partition]:c/WHDLoad.

The updated WHDLoad from the website should go to

[Name_of_your_amigaOS3.1_emulation_Drawer]:C/

Have a look here:

hope this helps. :-)

Are you running OS 4? That might've helped to know.

Yes, sorry.  X5000 OS4.1FE Preview.

I will look in RunInUAE's prefs file to see if it has a path set.

I re-installed RunInUAE over itself and it fixed the problem.
