Kosher to announce features on other related sites?
« on: June 23, 2009, 04:40:42 PM »
Hey guys,

Thought I'd pose this as a question (and to get rid of the last stupid poll).

As we roll out new features and sections to the web site, is it kosher to make brief announcements on other Amiga-related sites (and places like usenet) letting others know?

I don't really mind when people did it here (pre-vB) but don't want to tick anyone off..

Well, I asked for that about a week ago. :)

Of course go for it!  As I said already, go especially to MOZone.
Was: Mac Mini PPC running MorphOS 2.4
Now: Amiga Forever 2010 with AmiKit and AmigaSYS
Not used: Icaros Desktop 1.2 (reason: no wifi)
Planned soon: an OS4 system
Shortly then: a MOS notebook (wifi is a must-have)

It's your site, as I said before. Do what you feel is necessary.

Even if it is kosher, is it halal?

dang i feel like the odd man out. am i the only one that thinks it is a bad thing to hock your site on someone elses without permission. now an announcement in the news section would be fine(those get approved.)

or am i totally misreading the poll?
The only stupid question is a question not asked.

I say do it. Show them the bar is raised. It might help all community sites improve.
Besides noone is going or able to force anyone to come here and they might not if they don't know what we offer. They also don't have to use all of the sites features. A devout AW member can just come here only for the auctions. Or an AROS user wants to just blog. Maybe some groups of users just use the social groups feature to help organize local or regional events.

I find the possibilities with the new site just mind boggling at what can be done.

I like my pancakes with bacon bits - not kosher, nor halal.

News is news, it should be syndicated, pulled from RSS feeds and aggregated on your site. Trouble is, those 'other sites' probably don't know about fancy technology like this.

Why don't you be the 1st to offer up your news/announcements forum into a feed and see who bites.
