We are glad to present the first component of the StormC5 IDE, StormC5ED. In the tradition of the previous versions, we placed high values in the development of StormC5ED ensuring the popular Amiga look-and-feel. We set high prorities on high speed and modern editor functionalities. Due to the intensive use of operating system functions of AmigaOS 4.1, StormC5ED is available exclusively for the new Amiga operating system and will be further aligned it in the future. We would like to point out that much of the Proceeds of the StormC5 editor will be incorporated in the future development of the StormC5 environment.
Join now, in a new kind of editing on AmigaOS 4.x!
StormC5ED is available via download or CD. The download version costs only 29,95 Euro and the CD version 34,95 Euro. Order at once from our Online Shop (http://www.amiga-shop.net/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=stormc5ed).
The following outstanding capabilities are offered by the new StormC5ED:
Amiga look-and-feel:
All keyboard shortcuts correspond to the AmigaOS specifications, toolbar images are supported, tooltips, etc.
AppWindow/AppIcon support:
Dragging a file icon in an editor window or on the editor appicon will open that file.
Extreme fast syntax highlighing:
Lightning fast syntax highlighting, Recognized words can be highlighted with colour and/or font attributes.
File classes:
The driver for the syntax highlightning are applied as external modules. As a result, the editor is extensible for future tasks.
File classes do currently exist for the following languages:
- C/C++ (minimum requirement SDK 53.20),
- Catalog-Descriptions (for use with CatComp),
- AmigaGuide(R),
- ARexx
Definitionbar:
For recognized words the relevant definition/Quick-Help is displayed.
Bookmarks:
In a document an umlimited number of bookmarks can be set and jumped to with a keyboard shortcut.
Folding parts of a document via definable fold marks:
For example, so in C/C++ files, the method bodies are folded away for clarity and better readability of the code.
MDI- or TDI-Userinterface:
Texts can be displayed either in a separate window for each text (MDI - multiple document interface) or all together in a single window with Tab control (TDI - Tabbed Document Interface).
Automatic indentation (atm. only for C/C++):
On typing of a character that initiates or terminates a block, the editor can react with different variations to increase or reduce the indentation ("keep your source code clean and tidy").
Visualization of tabulators, spaces and linefeeds:
Optional displaying of these characters to find missing tabs in a "makefile", for example.
The GUI of the editor is available in 7 languages:
In the basic package, the StormC5Ed interface has already been translated into 7 languages: German, English, Spanish, French, Italian, Danish and Russian are currently available. Other languages will follow.

Pretty cool new programming software still coming out for our amigas!
-
Cool, off to buy!

Would be nice if you could connect a compiler to the editor, like stormgcc.

I think that's the plan in the long run, to have a complete IDE for StormC 5.
Its a shame they don't seem to have plans on supporting real Amigas though. :(

It is indeed. I'd certainly buy it for that...

I've been knocking up a little utility in Cubic the last couple of days and it's quite nice but it has a really weird interface compared to IDE's on other platforms.
This StormC 5 Ed looks far more intuitive going by this press release.
I hope this "OS4 only" pattern I've noticed recently for stuff that really could be multi-platform doesn't become the standard practice. :(

"StormC5ED - Programming, scripting and text editing under AmigaOS 4.x The first step is taken. "...
So now it is available for nearly 3 years, it's maybe time for an update?
What others steps have been done?

Could be any number of reasons why they haven't developed/released further updates to StormC5. Lack of sales, programmer busy with real life etc.
Is this software you own or would buy if further development was assured? It' probably best to contact Alinea Computer directly for any chance of an answer.

@Kamelito
i bought the editor when it came out, and it's my very favorite for perusing through source code generally. i'd love for additional features, and i've sent simon at alinea some suggestions. i'm sure they'd love feedback directly, especially if you're an existing customer or would purchase an updated stormc IDE when available. i doubt they're reading this thread, for example.

I just sent them a message through their homepage.
Maybe they're waiting for the native GDB debugger commissioned by AEON?
We'll see if I get an update, but it is slow, Codebench dev is slow, AVD maybe just dead...
If we want new developers we need great development tools and documentation.
That is the strict minimum IMHO.

Did I miss something?
I'm owner of a registered copy of StormC 4 - bought from Haage & Partner on an Amiga fair here in Cologne.
I always thought that since H&P left the Amiga market, StormC development was discontinued. How did it come that Alinea now apparently developed StormC 5?
Has anybody information about that and can enlighten me?

@Dandy
alinea purchased the rights to many of H&P's amiga products years ago, including amigawriter, arteffect, stormc, etc.
