Amiga 1200 Key caps
« on: September 19, 2020, 08:55:04 PM »
My A1200 has a French (i think) keyboard, so I am looking for a set of US key caps.
Anyone in the US or Canada have a broken A1200 they want to part out?

Been pretty out of the loop the past couple years.  Did the Kickstarter ever get produced?

Sure but anyone outside the kickstarter from years ago cant get any. Its crazy because there is a lot of money to be made with amiga keycaps.

Sure, but they are trying to produce the next batch to fullfill demand. Due to the situation we are all in the production gets delayed over and over again. :(

Unfortunately this statement is only true to some degree. As far as I know, the production of all Scandinavian keycaps (and possibly other versions, too) are still on hold. While I'm not sure what's been stalling them for this long, I'm confident that the A1200.net crew are doing their best to speed up the process.

Hasn't it been literally years? How do people put up with this stuff?

That would be a good question in a different context. The harsh reality is that the people behind A1200.net likely have limited resources, and that they are running the company as a hobby project. Given that the assumption is true, there is only that much you can demand from them. Personally, I'm really grateful that the initiative exists in the first place and I hope that every backer gets their rewards as soon as the project constraints allow.

If any A1200.net representative reads this post, they are most welcome to post an update.

Dear Backers,
We have kept you updated on a regular basis, but for the past few months these updates were not much to write home about.

As you have read in previous posts, factories have slowly but steadily been starting up here in Asia and even though the COVID19 pandemic is far from over.

The challenge we and also the factories have, is to plan production slots and obviously a vendor asking for 100,000+ units being produced from 1 type and 2 color codes are the ones being picked first. We want a mere 3,000 units produced and we have 25+ color combinations and layout permutations.

We need to change
...

Having a small team of hobbyists is no excuse. When you are taking people's money with a deliverable product waiting years is a joke. Many other projects, sometimes with just one person, have had good and timely projects in the hands of end users.

I remember backing the A1200 cases project when it came out.  *Years later* when the cases arrived my work had changed, my family life had changed, and I had very little time (i.e., "no time") for the hobby anymore.  Sold them off (at a loss) to others in the forum.  I don't think some of the accessories ever arrived (floppy eject buttons?).  Sad thing is I would have paid 5x as much for the cases if I could have gotten them when I actually wanted them.  😥

I kindoff 'knew' they can't make them forever so i snapped what i could get at the time. only sold off a few. looks like i have been right all the time, sadly. If you watched the videos from production it seems quite difficult to actually make them at a good quality, even nowadays. So the molds are available, but the production line is not, most of the time...

I've been waiting since 2017(/16?) for two sets of those keycaps, and they recently got rid of half the colours that I wanted >:( forcing me to change BOTH my dual colour choices.

Since then I gutted a CDTV keyboard for it's key caps (don't worry it's reversible if they ever deliver) to achieve what I was looking for.
