Is this the real deal, or the "Live Eval" versions they've given away in the past?
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

Free download? I thought Linux distros were always free :-?. Apart from the CD-in-a-box-with-support releases that is.

It is free. I'm no expert but here's how I understand SUSE. You can download & install their latest release at any time, I've recently done an FTP install of SUS 9.1. While extremely easy, it would frighten off some. If you want a bootable ISO with nearly idiotproof installation you have the choice of Live evail or a retail box vrsion with phone support.

Fair enough.

Hey there,
You may have already worked this out Effy, but a 'live eval' is a distribution which boots straight from CD, making use of a ramdisk, so you can try without having to fiddle around installing the thing :-)
Remarkably useful for fixing a bust installed distro too, not that this is the voice of experience or anything...honest  :-D

Consider me being a truly beginner when talking about Linux, still need to learn that. But this Linux version, for what kind of Amiga´s can this be useful ?? Only for A1 and Pegasos or also for Blizz- and Cyberstorm PPC´s ???  :-?

Is this 9.2 basic or 9.2 Professional?

I am after the latter.

I'm downloading this right now. It's not the live eval (that's in another directory on the FTP site). If you go into 1386/9.2/iso you see two files. A mini Install and 9.2-FTP-DVD. I read the readme and it says this is the same as the boxed version so until it's done and I burn the DVD I wont know if its basic or Pro.

Keep in mind, though. While the download is free in order to use Novell's update service I'm sure you need a valid serial which I'm sure you can only get by paying for the product.

Still, a good way to look and see if it's worth your while. I've checked out 9.1Pro, Novell Linux Desktop (same Kernal but fewer extras than 9.2 Pro), and the 9.2 Pro Live Eval and it certainly impressed me. This will probably be the first Linux that I'll run on a regular basis. Up until now I've always said 'good OS but not ready for prime time'. Not quite sure if it's ready for prime time yet, but it's certainly very usable as a desktop OS now for someone a bit less than a computer guru.

This time around they also give a DVD image as well as the FTP install option so if you have a DVD burner/reader you can burn and install from that :-) Also, you can get all your updates free too, no need to register :-) Oh yeah - posted from Suse 9.2 ;-)

Right, quite a lot of confusion on this thread.

1. This is the full DVD install of SuSE 9.2 Professional with the 3rd party commercial taken software out.

2. It is for x86-32bit and amd64/emt64 64bit processors only. there is a version for PPC but it is older.

3. You do not need a key/serial to use the update service, and it is free at all times.

I have a boxed copy with manuals of 9.1 Pro sat here besides me, and this 9.2 DVD ISO is just as good. Better even.

BUGGER!  I just paid for this a couple of ing months ago! (proper boxed copy).  Ho hum, I guess at least I've got the commercial stuff ... which I probably don't use anyway, lol.
