A4000 Buster v9 SMD to v11 Help!
« on: May 31, 2016, 06:10:08 PM »
Hi All!

Just picked up an a 4000 and it has a v9 buster on it (with a wire jumped between two pins- not sure what that is about)

anyway I want to upgrade to a v11 and I see that Amigakit has some for sale but my version is not socketed. I have someone that is reliable that can solder the chip for me but I don't know what to do or where else to go since I need an SMD version of this chip- can the PLCC version easily be converted ? I read on here that added the socketed board might not be a good idea...

 Help!
Amiga 500- 1MB Chip/2MB Fast
Amiga 1200 - GVP 030/882 25Mhz 8MB Fast
Amiga 2000/PPI 040 25Mhz 16 Meg/2MB Agnus (DKB MegaChip)- Microway Flicker Fixer
Amiga 4000/40/25 - Under Construction :hammer:

If you have someone that is able to solder as you say its as simple as getting the correct socket for the buster 11 (PLCC). You remove the old chip. Clean the old solder off the pads and solder in the PLCC socket. Insert the new Buster 11. I have done it several time and its quite easy.

This is how its done. Not an Amiga in this video, but the process is exactly the same. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30x4oxyczH4

Buster is 84 pin yes. You need a surface mount version. They look like this one, but get a good 3M or known brand, not one of these Chinese ones. https://www.westfloridacomponents.com/S026PD/84+Pin+PLCC+SMT+IC+Socket+Molex.html

Just like a moderator, never around when you need him. Well just in case he sees this, just wondering if you have any info on a ACA 500 or an ACA 500 plus. Looking to buy one for my A500. Wife says I can keep one Amiga, and I picked the A500 because it can play Arctic fox, but I want it to do other stuff also, like run a CF drive, and a compact flash hard drive. Would like to know if they will ever be made again.
