ROFL!!!! That's freakin hilarious!!!!  :roflmao:

I don't even know how to bang the AGA circuits directly.

I just use OpenScreenTags(blah blah...)
etc. from the OS.

Total Chaos AGA is a pure AmigaOS game and uses
graphics.library, intuition.library, exec.library etc. etc.

AmigaOS Rulez!!!!
Wanna try a wonderfull strategy game with lots of handdrawn anims,

I looked at the screen shots of Total Chaos and did not think I would like it, but will download it and give it a look some time soon.  I am a big fan of the old Gold Box D&D games like Pool of Radiance, Curse of the Azure Bonds, Secret of the Silver Blades and Pools of Darkness and UFO Enemy Unknown is one of my all time favorites.  I would like to write a Gold Box style D&D game using the UFO game engine and game play.  Would that qualify as a RPG?

Hi ChaosLord!

I tried your game TotalChaos AGA on AmigaOS 4. I get a warning "Can't open screen". I wonder what kind of screen the game wants to open. Also, does it use the CIA chip in any way, I get also warning about this.

Any help would be appreciated...

Damn great game.  I bought 3 sequels on the PC...none were as good as the original.

I wonder what kind of screen the game wants to open.

It wants to open several parent/child screens.
The main one is 640x512x8.
There is also a 640x1024 SA_AUTOSCROLL screen.
blah blah blah...

I use ciaa.resource or ciab.resource for a timer to play the mods.  I don't know any other proper way to play mods on OS 1.0 to 3.9

I doubt any of this was any real help to you.  :-)

If you want actual useful help just send me a working AmigaOne and I'll start the laborious process of porting the game over.  After that... 1280x1024x32bit gfx here we come!!!!

ChaosLord:

Ok. Well I try to pass this info forward, maybe there is some reason why screen doesn't open :) Feel free to give me more detailed info!

Could you make modplaying optional (or is it already?). Using CIA is banging hardware...There are other ways but you may need to replace the player then.

No and no.
Great RPGs require good music.

Please send me a player that magically plays medmods accurately without a timing pulse from a timer chip and I will use it.

It must support 0-64 channels playback just as Total Chaos medplay routine has been doing for years.

Thanx for the assist! :-)

It's your lucky day ;) I have a MED player that doesn't use CIA. Only problem is that it is not optimized and it's beta. It's also tested only on A1 currently...it uses AHI, not audio.device btw.

Hi again Mr Chaos :)

My favourite ProTracker MOD Soulfree takes ~2%. Some converted multichannel s3ms eat more.

MMD2/3 with many command pages may be even hungry.

I have done some comparison with mikmod (SDL_mixer) and mikmod is faster currently.

argh, I remember finishing the curse and secret with the same characters ... I realised that I should get a life when I was somewhere in the middle of pools of darkness. But hey, it was very a good chance to improve my English (maybe I need to play more ?) I still have my pools of darkness disks somewhere, and my last save was still working when I checked last year. I better move it to hd.

the UFO enemy unknown is definitely not a RPG, as someone stated before, but I think the combat engine in UFO can be adapted to a gold box style game, and it would qualify as a RPG (even games like diablo qualify as rpg these days). But practically it's nearly impossible, I'm not sure if microprose will be willing to give their sources to you (I'm not even sure if microprose still exists) and you would need to spend lots of time to make "gold box" era graphics for the engine (I mean like castles, forests, dragons, fireballs etc.). hmm, when I think about it, maybe it's possible if you have enough devotion. but still it would be very demanding project.
I believe in mt. Fuji

@ Countzero,

Yes, you are exactly right, I was thinking of the combat portion of UFO in a "Gold Box" AD&D style.  I think it could be done fairly easily and well if the source for each was available and a small group of enthusiastic player/programmers/artists could be found to work on it.  It would definitely be just for fun (hopefully) as I don't think it would make any money if offered for sale.  I have one great artist that might be interested in doing the full screen stuff and some of the characters, she is very young and does not have a full time job yet.  Almost anyone could do the small graphics for scenery blocks, weapons and other items. If I could find the sources and a few programmers to help me, I think it would be possible.  In fact on the PC there was a last installment of the Gold Box style called Forgotten Realms Unlimited Adventures, which was an editor/game creator that was very popular.  Check the Web for FRUA and you will still see many sites listed.  Many of those sites probably have most of the graphics needed that could be used or converted for use, which would save a lot of time and effort.

By the way, your English seems perfect to me, playing those games must have worked!   :-D
