Amiga emulator for MacOSX?
« on: December 12, 2002, 11:43:58 AM »
Anybody know if there's an Amiga emulator for OSX?  Is there a port planned for UAE?  I imagine there would be because of OSX's unix underpinnings...  URL's would be appreciated.  Thanks.

By the way Amiga emulation on Mac OS X is dog slow.  Best bet is wait for MorphOS for mac's next year.

Can't tell- i ditched OS X (10.1) a while ago. And my  G3@350 192MB (now 640:-D) doesn't improve things that much.

You can try tweaking the emulation speeds:
I believe -1 is real time emulation (as best as possible) but slow. Best turbo i found at setting 5

Processor and memory count (256MB min), and i'd say only OS 10.2 runs at a standard speed. (so certainly not 10.0-or 10.1)

But it's all beta's-and UAE on mac ain't that shining.... in my opinion off course ;-)
Unless you got a dopple G4 1.25GHZ....

well there is the very, very, very, very, very, very, very early UAEPPC for the mac.
(it's not official yet, and probably will be kept so until some issues is worked out.) but will allow you to run any ppc amiga program on the mac including warpup, powerup, morpos and pos programs and will probably run OS 4.x-5.x when it's released.

actually calling it UAE is probably wrong :-D

Where can I get more info on UAEPPC?  And the MaxUAE page didn't give any info I could find.  Nothing to download either...

OK, I have an old Amiga 1200 and a legit copy of Cannon Fodder which is my most missed game of all time.  Before I start spending mucho time on this, is it actually possible to make disk images of commercial games and run them on UAE?  I read somewhere that transdisk will not work on disks which are not AmigaDOS formatted or something.  Anyone done this?

Thanks, Simon

You can download MaxUAE from sourceforge

http://sourceforge.net/projects/maxuae

But it is really, really slow (at least it was on my G3-450 running OSX 10.1.5).  Couldnt even keep up with an A500.

@surfsofa
My A1200 is lying around in pieces so i can't answer that directly...
But i'll send you an adress where you get them, since you've got them legally off course ;-)

@darkstream
Check out one of my posts in this thread, there was a notion of a direct link to a versiontracker page.
Else check www.versiontracker.com

@lando
Guess it's osX 1.1 and beta Max.
Hope you have enough memory (256>)
G3@450 should be able to just about to the job.... or are you running one of the early(!) ibooks?
(slow motherboard speed makes those machines as fast as my G3@350 imac=slow)

Else turn down the colors, or use that freaky unix command that you can use to increase priority for a program.

Quite a few games are copy protected and difficult to make images of. Cannon Fodder is hard to copy, I suggest getting the CD32 version instead which you can run with Winuae. I recently got that game on CD and works ok.
