Sounds like you need to run DiskSalv on it!
First check that SetPatch is there.
Second if it is there check its size.
Thirdly check to see if the "Execute" bit is set on and if not set it with PROT.
Finally check that 68040.library or equivalent is still there.
If it IS a boogered version of SetPatch and you find that DiskSalv does not rescue you copy the entire contents of all the SYS folders ( C, L etc ) to a backup directory somewhere else and then copy across those directories from the OS3.1 disks.
Then reboot and reinstall.

Well, here's what I would do.
1) Turn off the computer for about a minute
2) Insert a boot disk and turn on the computer
3) Get some virus checker (hopefully on floppy) and scan your system thoroughly.
If you don't have a virus you should then run something like DiskSalv. I assume you're running the standard FFS? DiskSalv will give you a good idea of what's wrong and it might even fix everything for you. It's possible that you might lose some files and might need to re-install. Do you have backups?
How old is your HD? It might be getting flaky. Might wanna buy a new one. This reminds me, I should backup my A4000 soon.

Dont take any chances, if your hd is a few years old, it
could just break down any time..
Happened to my WD caviar 4 gig drive last week, it just
broke down after a week with checksum errors all over
the place....

Thanks for all of your input. I have 2 9gig cheetah's that have almost no time on them. I was wondering if I could use these (would OS3.1 see them as 4 gig drives or 9 gig). I would also have to get a stepper to make the connection compatable....68pin LVD to 50pin...Would that work?
I have decided to revert back to 3.1 because of the issues ImageFX is haveing.

Without NSD and/or TD64 patches, you will only be able to safely use up to 4 Gig of those 9 Gig drives. Also, I run ImageFX v4.5 on OS 3.9 without issues. What problems are you having with that?

Why don't you stick with the drive you will by now have salvaged
as your primary drive, get a 4 way buffered IDE interface
( allows 2.5" and 3" ) and make a backup onto the 9gig
after you have put the recommended patches on?
Then all you have to do is use early startup to select between
each bootable drive at startup and make mods whilst still
being able to access both until you are happy that you
have migrated your apps and data OK?

It sounds to me like your drive is about to go or has gone to disk drive heaven. You need to do as the others mention and run disksalv on it. You can install that 9gig drive just fine, but only 4 gigs will shoe up. I recomend you partition it out to 2 4 gig sections and a 1 gig section. use the 1 gig part as your system partition and only put workbench and all related files on it.

That sounds like a great Idea. I just ordered a 68pin to 50pin adapter and should recieve it in a week or 2. Thanks again for all your help. I'll post my sucess or Failure in the near future.
Thanks again
