Hi guys,

 I'm having problems with this card, it is a DCE version of the CyberStorm PPC with 68060.
 I have this card installed in an A4000D rev. B. with

Super Buster -11
Ramsy -07
Fat Gary -02
Lisa -01
Alice -01

The problem is sometimes it boots(SOMETIMES), but most of the time it will not! When it does boot I can access the CyberStorm boot menu, memory and scsi work fine(I'm booting off IDE btw). Using OS3.9, I've installed the CS System disk as well. Also once the system starts working, I can even turn the system off and back on with no problem but, If I leave it off for say ten or 15 minutes it will not boot!

Anyone had this probem before? I've check for cold solder joints but can't check the PPC chip, is this chip solder in or what? It doesn't look to have a socket but the pins doen't come thur the other side either? The 4000 works fine with the A3640 rev. 3.0 and 3.1, and also my MK1 with 68040...

Any help?

Hi,
maybe not enought voltage to boot !
How many volt do you have on +5/+12/-12V PSU output ??

My CSPPC had the same problem, it was caused by the 060 socket. As it is surface mountered you won't see the head of the pins on the other side so you'd better leave finding cold solder points to an experienced technician.

The technician removed my socket completely, cleaned it from stanium, cleaned the board from stanium and later resoldered it with high quality stanium and a soldering station.

You could also try to clean the contacts of the 060 and the socket, insert it again in the socket and press it into the socket. Remember to also press in the other side of the socket to avoid damaging the traces of the board.

As you have already been advised to... it may be a good idea to also check out your power supply.

Yeah, my CS MkIII had the same problem; it was the 060 socket.

You can verify it by holding the board and squashing the 060 down and turning the amiga on. If it boots more often when you do that, its the socket.

That was the exact problem I had with my CyberStorm 060.  I had to remove the CPU and touch all 223 pins on the socket with a soldering iron long enough to melt the solder.  Bingo!

I had two MK III board just sitting in my closet and decedid to give the socket a try not long ago, it turned out that was the problem with both of them. I sold both on ebay and made a lot on them. The cool thing is I took both in trade for a PSone with an LCD screen just for the working 060 chips on them! What a deal eh?
