No Video-1084s -d and amiga 600
« on: May 08, 2015, 01:29:04 AM »
Hello,
I have a amiga 600 (PAL).

I got a new monitor ( 1084s -d)

Using the rgb cable, I don't have any video at all. The screen is totally dark.
On the monitor, the red power light is on .

I tried Digital and analog.
Any suggestions ?
Thanks,Peter

Can you confirm that the monitor works with any other device?  VCR, cable box, camcorder, etc.?

It's unclear from your post, are you confident that the A600 is working correctly?  Have you tested it with any other types of display?

First step is to isolate & troubleshoot to rule out whether it's the A600, the cable, or the monitor.  Good luck!

OK - I got video!!  There is a switch for Comp/Set/RGP  - it worked after I set it to  RGB  .

Now I have a different issue - the screen is shifted up, leaving a black bar on the bottom and chopping off part of the top menu bar.

There is a adjustment for  v-height  on the back , but I might need a special tool to reach it.

Any suggestions?

Was the monitor shipped to you?  These old monitors are really, really fragile.  I've seen more than one get damaged by UPS/FedEx/etc.  Best bet would be to try it with some other kind of device, anything with composite output should serve to test.

LOL.  Those buttons on the back of a 1084 can be tricky.  Doesn't help that there's a dozen different models of "1084" and no two of them are the same!  ;)

I dunno on the last bit.  If you say it needs a special tool, use the special tool?  Most of them just have fiddly knobs, though.  ;)

Some are recessed and need a smaller screw driver to adjust.  I have one that should work for $500 USD -- US military pricing!

You can use a screwdriver carefully. I vaguely remember there was an all plastic screwdriver you could use.

It sounds like there is a problem on the A600 though.

Where are you located? I have a 1084S that has a perfect picture, you just can't turn it off. This isn't as bad a problem as it sounds like. The switch is bad. I might give it away, IF you could pick it up (I need the box for another monitor) I am in the greater Washington D.C. area - 25 miles out.

The plastic screw drivers were non-metal (no iron to distort a magnetic field) and non-conductive to not conduct an electrical charge if you hit a live wire; the monitor uses a plastic knob with a screw-driver slot and bypasses these issues.

Or rather than adjust the picture on a CRT ( a common problem with CRTs) just buy another one with another fault; then you can wave your magic wand, click your red sparkling heels together three times while saying, "I wish I were home," and POOF! The two different problematic monitor will be merged into ONE!

[Likely with macrosomia, like Dolly the cloned sheep.]

I was gonna say he should wave his magic wand around right to the store and buy himself an Indivision and use a modern monitor, but some people in this day and age still like dealing with CRT's (and all their associated issues), LOL.  ;)

Having the horizontal hold "off" on a CRT when there is a perfectly good adjustment screw in back (since TV's came widely available in the 1950's) seems like a perfectly valid reason to get another monitor that needs a $1.50 USD switch placed to turn that one off & on.  It not like you can get your butler or even the serfs out in the field to come into the Big House and fix things that require even a tiny amount of a modicum of minor effort.

Perhaps the chauffeur, after polishing the Bentley, could lend a nail file to the effort.

on the back side, I see a hole labeled 'v.height' , but unfortunately the turning wheel inside the hole is pointing at a slight angle so I can't easily make the adjustment(assuming I have the correct plastic screwdriver)

I see 2 screws - I wonder if the back plate can be removed?

Here is a picture:

(I might sound overly cautious, but I know monitors have high voltage)
Thanks,Peter
