IF MS had Any Brains over there in Redmond, they would be hard at work Upgrading the XP kernal instead of flogging this crap that nobody likes (or at least putting an XP GUI on it, and making everyone's life easier)
I have Amiga stuff for sale at http://amigalounge.com. You can follow my builds there also.

I heard a rumor today that leaked out from Best Buy that Windows 7 Home Edition will cost $49 and that Windows 7 Premium Edition will cost $99, this seems like a reversal from Microsoft who usually charges high prices for their operating systems, they are also saying that Windows 7 is the Vista that works.

With Apple selling the next Mac OS upgrade at $29, Microsoft is going to have seriously rethink its consumer pricing structure, if only to save face.

That's an upgrade price though, and IIRC only from the most recent version of OS X - how much does it cost altogether?

Also it's irrelevant for 90+% of the market, who aren't going to rush out and buy a Mac (and even if they did, the cost of switching would be much higher). From a matter of principle, we might as well say that AmigaOS only costs £30 or whatever it is :) A better comparison would be pointing out that Linux is free, which is a concern for them on netbooks, although Linux has been around and free for years, and hasn't put a great dent in Windows's market share.

I have Windows 7 RC (7100) on my Laptop, which came Pre-Installed with Crapista.  1GB of ram (2x512 Dual channel) Dual core CPU, and it LLLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGED !!!

Windows 7 has been GREAT.  But hey, This is Microsoft.

They had 98 (Then 98SE) which was the one to use, then they released Windows ME, which... well, everyone laughed at it.  Or at least I did.

XP came out, which was what Windows ME Should have been.

Then came Vista, and it was 98 Versus ME all over again... WHY !?!?!?!?!?!?!!

Now they bring out Windows 7, which, I agree, is WHAT VISTA SHOULD HAVE BEEN.  It loads fast, windows open fast, it does not leak memory like a sieve.  But this is Microsoft..., they will NEVER learn and totally Phark up the next release.

AmigaOS3.9 is what AmigaOS3.5 should have been.   :)

The only protection OS X has is the honor system. It's the only part of their software that doesn't work.:roflmao:

When or what was the last OS Micro$oft "produced" that not even the LCD (least common denominator) hasn't complained about? '98? or 3.1? Oh... and lest we forget Windows 2000, or WinBlows professional? lol

As far as I'm concerned, AmigaOS3.9 or the last decent Micro$oft OS? Same bat time, same bat channel.

Same with MacOS. Should have stopped at 10.4 (Tiger, Panther, Jaguar, Lynx - whatever the cat name designation was). At least their OS's are just NOW starting to take a dive. Which makes them oh, what... 11 years beyond Micro$oft's last usable OS?   lol

Well, at least there's one place where AmigaOS wins hands down:

well, thats not full true,
I'm posting this from a G4@466 running leopard, its almost a 10 years computer (2000)
the OS is quite responsive without turning off any of the effects, ofcourse I can't watch youtube videos without frame skipping but thats not an OS problem.

Since someone asked about pricing (This is USA pricing):

I will respond with what I know..

Check out the Microsoft Store Pre-order prices:

http://store.microsoft.com/microsoft/Windows-Windows-7/category/102

DreamSpark (Download Microsoft Software for free if you are a student (that's right FREE)

https://www.dreamspark.com/default.aspx

Microsoft Web Developer Free  Software for Web Developers (including a production web server requires you to pay a program fee $300 after 3 years)

http://www.microsoft.com/web/websitespark/default.aspx

http://windowsteamblog.com/blogs/windows7/archive/2009/07/31/windows-anytime-upgrade-and-family-pack-pricing.aspx

The Windows 7 family Pack (available October 22)

The Windows 7 Family Pack consisting of Windows 7 Home Premium for installation on up to 3 PCs.

Today, most homes have more than one PC in them. When you run Windows 7 on more than one PC on a home network, you can do more with features like HomeGroup. HomeGroup allows people to connect to PCs on their network and share files, music and photos with the whole family – easily. The Windows 7 Family Pack is an easy and affordable way to get all your PCs in your household running Windows 7 through licensing to install Windows 7 Home Premium on up to 3 PCs.

The Windows 7 Family Pack will be available starting on October 22nd until supplies last here in the US and other select markets. In the US, the price for the Windows 7 Family Pack will be $149.99 for 3 Windows 7 Home Premium licenses. That’s a savings of more than $200 for three licenses.

Family pack in the EU Pricing:

http://windowsteamblog.com/blogs/windows7/archive/2009/08/24/update-on-windows-7-in-europe.aspx

As far as I know the $49 dollar deal was a pre-order upgrade deal (check out this link: http://www.foxbusiness.com/story/personal-finance/lifestyle-money/personal-technology/microsoft-allow-pre-orders-windows--upgrade/) in other words buy this before launch..

Most people I know get it free with their MSDN/Technet/Partner Program membership or free to academic programs..

Oh and for the record everyone on the "SMALLER" Tech beta, got a copy of Windows 7 for free.. In other words anyone could download it, but if you were actually filing bug reports etc. You could get it for free.. I just don't want people thinking that because they got a beta to review, that meant they were actually on the tech beta..  Bug reports actually require you to do a lot more work, than a crash report by the way..

If you signed up for the Windows 7 launch events in the USA you get a free copy of Windows 7 Ultimate as well..

For those looking to update from Windows XP simply use the XP Windows Easy Transfer Option to move your software and settings..

The procedure is detailed here..

Suspect that most people will choose the "freely downloadable" option when it comes to Win7....
