A2000 HD Options...

I was wondering.... did the stock A2000 HD come with any SCSI controller other than the A2090/A2091? Did C< ever offer custom A2000 HD hardware configs at time of purchase? Could you even buy directly from C< back in the day? How about C< dealers? Did they offer "at time of purchase" custom upgrades? Anyone got any cool purchase or ordering stories from back in the heyday?

The A2000HD that I bought in 1995 or so used from a dealer that got from a high school that got it when new.
They got it with a GVP 030/40 Combo & a toaster flyer in it for $800. I got it for $800 without toaster flyer. No Idea if it was the original accelerator, but maybe.

As far as I remember the only official options were the 2090 or 2091. You could get different hard drives stock, like the Seagate 20/40MB, then Quantum 52/105. Whole lotta space there. :-D

Investigating HD controller options late in the A2000%&$#?@!%&$#?@!%&$#?@!8217;s life long ago I concluded that the Microbtics HardFrame was the most advanced HD controller available.

It was too pricey for me and so I went with the lesser Supra SCSI controller. My current A2000 has a GVP HD+8 RAM/controller board with a flash-based SCSI emulator. It is no HardFrame tho.

If it came from Commodore, it had a 2090 in it. That was it!

I recently reassembled my A2000HD with the 2094 us the drive finally kicked the bucket. I had transferred the card and the Quantum to a 1500 cus I suspected the CPU on the HD and wanted to check it over. Turns out there was nothing wrong with the 2000HD. Sadly I also had a Series II go pop. I have a GVP030 and few more on the Series II but they are all starting to struggle a bit now. The Series II has the SCSI also.

The best I ever had was a Tekmagic 2060 Unfortunately thosecards are a bit long for the slot and it didn't like flexing and died. Damn fast, wish i still had it. will get a Vampire 4 when available.

I looked up the specs on the Tekmagic 2060.... wow, that was speedy even for today's standards! What year did those come out? Supported burst RAM access and 10MB/Sec transfer rate! Bet that cost a pretty penny when new. That's a shame that it borked on you. I wonder how many of those are still around since that didn't fit correctly? Looked like a very configurable board with many RAM options.

I remember wanting an A2000HD with a bridge board so bad back in the late 80's. Too pricey! IIRC, looking in Computes! Gazette back in the day JUST a 5M/B HDD was $700.00 added to the price.
