so installed amiwm and it looks nifty except.. maybe Im stupid or missed something obvious, but I can't seem to actually find any of my damn files, folders etc.
So.. a little help here? :)

Help with what? amiwm is a basic window manager and nothing else, thus it does not include a file browser. Everything is like it is supposed to be. If you need a graphical file browser, install and run a graphical file browser of your choice.

@runequestor: Which ones? linux, or window-manager? The hidden folders should have .dot folders for all
the window-managers that are installed.
Which filemanager , and which distro? thunar, pcmanfm, nautilus, dolphin, konqueror, rox-filer
are among many filemanagers. For access from a root prompt, some new distros now require
a dbus-launch preface:
[root@localhost username] #dbus-launch konqueror etc to launch certain apps
These are typical folders
cd /usr/bin
cd /usr/share
cd /home/username/.local
cd /etc

Amiwm was very cool, but sadly never developed... I remember reading through the source code a few years ago, but I didn't have time to figure it out :(

The confusion of the OP is completely justified. It is hard to imagine that in over a decade nobody wrote a decent filemanager to make AmiWM more useful to Workbench-Fans. If somebody ever did - and it just escaped my attention - please leave a note.

yeah, I had to spend a fair bit of time poking around to get it to do anything.
If you create a configuration file, you can have things appear in the Tools menu, so thats nice.
Sadly, a lot of the workbench commands are not actually working, so thats too bad :)
Browsing the web with Chrome in fake workbench is pretty rad :)
It doesn't play nice with the menu's of Empathy, so I'll have to poke around for an alternative here.

No Workbench replacement but there is a program for classic DOpus lovers:

Yeah, but it´s all like writing "Ferrari" on a nameless car. It´s not worth it.
AmiWM is much better than any of these look-alike-mokups! Linux programs are however not designed to work with something like AmiWM, so of course - Gnomes current window-manager will cause less trouble, but it won´t handle .info files, drag screens or even just send a window to the back (which is an essential feature!).

Worker is pretty awesome. Trying to find a set of apps that look "old school" to use with amiwm :)
